Peels are great game changers for skin when done correctly. The problem with a lot of peels is that with some of the more intense peels you have to have the time to do them and know that your skin may look bad before it’s good. And then some peels you put on your face will turn it a color for a day and then followed by several days of peeling skin. Don’t get me wrong, I like those peels and the results, it’s that just right now I don’t have the time to take a few days off to snake off my skin.
Dr. Neal Schultz, found of the skincare line Beauty Rx, has created The Progressive Peel. It’s a glycolic system which he developed from feedback over 10 years of patient visits plus 49,000 in-office glycolic peels. It’s his answer to in-office results done at home without the irritation or down time. I’ve been using this Progressive Peel over a 6 week period. It’s super easy to use and I had virtually no irritation. The Progress Peel stems from his skincare principle, “It’s Not Just About Wrinkles.” He recognized that when we look in the mirror and we are unhappy with our skin we oftentimes just assume and say it’s the wrinkles, when in fact wrinkles represent less than 5% of one’s face. The other 95% that accounts for older looking skin is dull, clogged, tired-looking, uneven and more. I would have to agree! So his glycolic exfoliation based approach if for that 95% target market.
Here’s how it works:
Weeks 1-2 use the Serum every night. Cleanse your skin and then use a few drops all over the face and leave it set on the skin. After about 10 minutes or so (you probably don’t have to wait that long) you can continue on with your regular skincare regimen of serum and moisturizer. The serum has an 8% concentration. I really didn’t feel anything different on my skin. Towards the end of the 2nd week I was noticing my skin felt pretty smooth and looked a bit more clear.
Weeks 3-4 you begin alternating products. First night use the pads, which consist of a dual-acting high-strength of 10%. Then the next night go back to the serum and throughout weeks 3-4 you alternate like this every night. The first time or two I used the pads I noticed a few seconds of a “stinging” feel, but certainly nothing strong or irritating.
Weeks 5-6 is when I really started to notice the difference in my skin and the product felt different, too. On the first night of week 5 use only the Cream, which is a maximum strength 15% cream and the second night go back to the pads, and alternate like this for the duration of weeks 5-6. The first few times I used the cream I again felt a slight stinging sensation, but only for a few seconds and it wasn’t very bad, but I also tolerate things quite easily. But this is when I really started to notice the change in my skin. When I first used the cream at night (and again follow up with your regular products after it’s absorbed) and I woke up my skin felt baby-soft and smooth. I was very happy with the results I was seeing.
Throughout the six week process of the peel my skin never got red or irritated other than a few moments of a slight stinging sensation a few times when starting a new product. Would I recommend? Yes! It’s so easy to use, it’s a no-brainer. It’s really only one quick easy step added to your nightly skincare routine and for me that was easy. I also liked the results, my skin feels so much softer, definitely clearer and smoother and the lines have softened as well.
It’s available at Beauty Rx and HSN.
