What did you think of the Oscars last night? I know if I heard Anne Hathaway “hoot” like she was at a football game during another introduction I was going to start throwing things at my TV. Did it seem “hip” and “youthful” to you? No. Please take my advice and bring back Hugh Jackman next year. I’m begging.
Now onto the red carpet… sleeves seem to be making a comeback, the nude makeup look was in, that is unless there was a bright red lip, and silver seemed to shine quite a bit.
Although I don’t think there was a specific dress or person that I can point out that simply “wowed” me beyond words, there were some very lovely looks on the red carpet. Here are my thoughts on the fabulous women over 40.
Nicole Kidman in Dior Couture – I know this wasn’t loved by many, but I liked the structured dress and the incredible beading and details. What would have made me love it was if it were in a vibrant color like chartreuse.
Melissa Leo – OK she could have forgone the “F'” bomb, but I thought she looked lovely. The shape of the Marc Bouwer dress fit her beautifully and I didn’t mind the lace over the mirror-like underlay. Hair and makeup – spot on.
Cate Blanchett is one of the few people that can get away with wearing art, and she does it beautifully. This pale lavender Givenchy dress was stunning on her. I swear she gets better with age.
Sandra Bullock – After her hair disaster at the Golden Globes, she has once again redeemed herself in this Vera Wang gown. Her hair and makeup were fitting for the awards, but the dress really could have done without the big butt-bow.
Helena Bonham Carter – First off, let’s be happy the shoes match. This Colleen Atwood dress is not the disaster her Golden Globe dress was, but I have to wonder if her husband Tim Burton just couldn’t get Edward Scissorhands out of his system and go after it. After watching her in an interview, I have to say, I do love her quirkiness!
Helen Mirren – The woman can do no wrong in my book, and this Vivienne Westwood dress proves it. Dress, hair, makeup, jewelry, all beautiful.
Celine Dion nailed it with this Armani Prive dress last night. Can you believe just a few short months ago she had TWINS! Wow! I loved the softness of her hair, the jewelry and I only wish she would have used a touch more color in her lips.
Halle Berry always wears her dresses to enhance her gorgeous figure. I only wish this Marchesa dress didn’t have all that tulle at the bottom, it really distracts from the intricate detail on the top.
Sharon Stone – She is so stunningly beautiful and this Dior gown is amazing. Except for that dead animal that is resting on her shoulder. Love her makeup and hair too.
Marisa Tomei – Loved her hair and makeup and those earrings are to die for. Loved her dress from the hips up, until they panned down and showed the whole vintage Charles Jones dress I had second thoughts. I don’t like the bottom, but everything else is a winner.
Annette Benning – Makeup is nice, earrings are wow, hair , not so great. I just can’t seem to put my finger on what it is about her Naeem Khan dress. Is it boring? Does it age her? What are your thoughts?
