We’re pretty excited here at Fab Over Forty! Why? Because Sonia Kashuk, yes, THE Sonia Kashuk, Makeup Artist and Founder of the beauty line Sonia Kashuk Beauty, has created a New Year’s Eve look exclusive for Fab Over Forty readers! She created this face chart for you to create the look at home. I’ve been a huge fan of Sonia’s products for years. They’re available at Target and are excellent quality at an affordable price. It’s my favorite beauty line to pick up when I’m at Target. shopping. The brushes are amazing and I recommend to everyone and now she has a bath and body collection, too!
Here’s what Sonia has to say about this look for the over 40 woman.
The holiday season is a great time to perfect that show-stopping party look that always makes you feel glamorous and gorgeous. As I’ve gotten older I find my favorite party look has switched from holiday sparkle to a shaped eye that flatters my face and adds that hit of drama with a bold red lip.
To achieve this look I start with the eyes. A makeup artist trick of the trade when working with dark shadow shades is to avoid fallout ruining your flawless foundation application. Using my Eye Couture in Eye on Neutral, begin by applying a soft beige shade over the entire lid.
Next, take a deeper brown and work into the crease creating depth. Extend the color slightly over the crease and out towards the corner of the eye to forming a pointed cat eye shape.
Using a Smudge Brush, take a dark brown shadow and line the outer third of the lower lashline. Extend the color up towards the temples, past the upper lash line.
The key to this look is keeping the tones classic and playing with shape rather than color to create the illusion of lift that will counteract any droopiness in the eye we experience with age.
Lastly, use my Dramatically Defining Longwear Gel Eye Liner to tightly line the upper lash line, filling in between the lashes and creating the effect of thick, full eyelashes. A few coats of mascara, or even my Full Volume Eyelashes when you really want to look special, and your eyes are red-carpet ready.
Now go in with the foundation and concealer, using on an as needed basis to wipe out any blemishes or dark spots. Keep powder sparse, dusting on the T-zone only if necessary to avoid anything settling and accentuating fine lines. Sweep some bronzer onto the skin, adding tone and bringing the face to life with a healthy glow.
To finish the face, dust on some peachy blush to the apples of the cheeks, swirling backwards toward the hairline, to add a hit of brightness.
On to the lip, begin by applying a bit of foundation to the lip line to fill in fine lines and wrinkles. Next, use my Lip Definer in True Red to line the mouth, then fill in the rest of the lips building a base for extended wear. Be sure to take your finger and blur the lip line slightly to avoid an overly drawn mouth, giving the lips a softer aesthetic.
Then, using a Lip Brush and my Limited Edition Red Lip Matte paint lips and build color to preferred intensity. One of my favorite things about this look is the matte mouth- it gives the face such a couture and chic aesthetic.
