Nina Garcia’s guide to style is revealed in the pages of her book The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must OwnThis tome is a phenomenal resource for those of us with a passion for fashion. Nina Garcia has held the position of Fashion Director for Elle and Marie Claire and has been a judge for Project Runway since season one, so she is  an authority on the subject.Nina GarciaI am an avid reader and have been known to be on my e-reader at all hours of the night. I could not put this style vade mecum down. Nina has the philosophy that women express their individuality through their style choices and believes that certain pieces are classics and reappear year after year, both on the fashion runway and in everyday life. She has put together a guide that is highly informative and extremely entertaining. The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Have by Nina GarciaThe animated illustrations by Ruben Toledo leapt from the pages of this book and made her stylish descriptions easy to visualize. Nina references high end brands but also offers less expensive alternatives and offers advice on what works and what doesn’t; what is worth a splurge and when you can cut corners. For example, Nina states that whenever women wear animal prints they should limit them to one piece and keep the remainder of their wardrobe simple. She also discusses cashmere sweaters, bangles, cosmetic bags, leather pants, etc. with such flourish that I am inspired to revamp my closet, a brave undertaking that may involve incorporating a little of my husband’s half of the closet, an idea unbeknownst to him at this juncture.

Nina also references many celebrities who were catalysts in making certain fads popular and how the popularity of those items has stood the test of time. From gloves to hats to brooches, (yes, we can still wear brooches), to boots, Nina describes how, when and where to rock these 100 items. Whenever I finished this book, I felt giddy with the information and couldn’t help but dress with more panache.
