The other day I was invited to an event at Nordstrom where we learned from the Jo Malone trainer more about Jo Malone the person and her line fragrances.
We were in a private room for the class where a table of Jo Malone products were set up. Throughout the class we were able to learn about and test a variety of the fragrances.
The lovely and gorgeous Susan was our teacher, giving us the history of Jo Malone and the company and teaching us about the fragrances with a focus on the latest limited edition of 5 new Tea Fragrance Blends.
Jo Malone created her first fragrance when she was a child of 9 years old by placing rose petals in a jar of water overnight. When she was older and decided to have her own company, she had a dinner party for 20 people and made Nutmeg and Ginger bath oil and gave each of them a bottle of it. One of the recipients called the next day and placed several orders for more and it grew from there.
When Jo opened her first store it was on 154 Walton Street, and she created her personal signature scent called 154. She used to spray it down the front of her, down her backside she would spray Amber Lavender and then Red Roses Oil combed into her hair. This way she never smelled the same when she entered a room as when she left a room. This is where she excels, at everyone creating his or her own signature scent. You are encouraged to play with the scents by layering or fragrance combining, and suggestions are given such as these here.
The 5 new Tea Fragrance Blends are available in the 1 oz size only. They were created by perfumer Christine Nigel for Jo Malone with the grand British tradition of “tea time” in mind. The scents are Sweet Lemon, Sweet Milk, Fresh Mint Leaf, Earl Grey and Cucumber, and Assam and Grapefruit.
We also sampled some of the body creams and bath oils, which make your skin amazingly soft. All afternoon I kept on smelling my hands and fell in love with the Blue Agava and Cacao Body Creme mixed with Grapefruit Bath Oil. It absorbs instantly and leaves your hands so very soft and without feeling like they’re coated with anything.
I am now a serious fan of Jo Malone products – from the body care to room scents and candles. And, I love that I can create a scent of my very own so when you walk by someone they don’t recognize it as a common scent – it’s my very own.
Jo Malone has been a favorite of mine for such a long time now. Her fragrances are pure and simple. I really like that fact.
I love Jo Malone too! My most recent favorite combo is Red Roses and Sweet Lemon. I do love that you can mix and match and never smell the same way twice, and the fragrances are clean and simple! I recently read that the “real” Jo Malone sold her company a few years ago and that she plans to be back in business soon with a new perfume line!
Isn’t it true that Jo Malone sold her company to Estee Lauder? I believe that Jo Malone was involved when she first sold it and has since moved on to other pursuits. I don’t know what she’s been up to and I hope we hear from her again. I haven’t tried any of the tea scents yet, but I plan to! My favorites from the line so far are The Orange Blossom, Lime Basil & Mandarine and Dark Amber & Ginger Lily [which was a limited edition fragrance but can still be found]. Oh, and I love the simple design of the bottles.
Yes, Estee Lauder does now owm Jo Malone
