Botox

I decided to take the jump and try Botox. It was the “11” marks that were plaguing me when I started noticing them nearly a year ago. The first time was in a holiday photo that I was in with a group of people and I went “WAIT!” when did those show up!?! I know so many of you have been doing it for years and think it’s no big deal and that it’s part of maintenance and wondering what was I afraid of. Well, I was very nervous about ever getting Botox. I figured I’d be that one in many millions of people that may have a reaction that wasn’t good.  So if I was going to do it, I was going to have a medical doctor do it and not at some questionable salon or Botox party type of setting.

I chose to have my first Botox injection at American Laser Skincare. While their aestheticians are trained in giving Botox, they don’t. It is performed by the on-staff medical doctor who has gone thru training and knows of the different techniques that other practitioners use in comparison to how he performs the injection service. Those points and the fact that he sits down with you to discuss your concerns, expectations and what you need to do when having an injection and how to prevent “bad Botox” like eye droop and more.  ***Update – unfortunately American Laser Skincare has unexpectedly closed their doors leaving many unsatisfied client – including myself.

Well, it went easier than I thought, was less painful than I thought it would be, and I was a good student who did as the doctor ordered afterwards by scrunching my forehead around for several hours afterwards and NOT rubbing the areas. It took about 6 days for the full effect to show and I have to say I am pleased with the results. I can still move my forehead so I don’t look like I have a plastic, stiff face. I feel like I look less angry – a result that those “11”s can give you and it really made me realize how much I do scrunch my face and have to say “stop it!” to myself.

The saying is never say never and I agree. I want to always look like myself and I don’t see doing this every 3 months like the doctor said is how often most women have it done. There may be things I’d like to change (like I hate that saggy chin area), but sometimes you just have to say so what, you’re 52 years old and life happens!

The results were my own and yours may vary. Be sure to consult with a doctor.
