She’s here to tell us again, the secrets to why we aspire to be like French women. First Mireille Guiliano brought us the hit book “French Women Don’t Get Fat” and her latest book is “French Women Don’t Get Facelifts, the Secret of Aging with Style and Attitude”.
What is it that French women do that most of us American women don’t? Well, first of all it has a lot to do with looking and acting your age, not trying to be someone you’re not or your daughter’s age. Wear age appropriate clothing, wear more natural looking makeup with maybe a pop of lipstick color and the biggest tip for aging? One that we all need to aspire to, which is being happy in our own skin.
Mireille offers much more advice and it’s worth checking out her recommendations which include anti-aging recipes. It may be a great way to consider starting out the “new you” in 2014.
A copy of this book was received for consideration of review.

I have to agree, I am french myself and all of the french women in my life have a great sense of humour about life and aging. Not to sound morbid, but if you have ever been present at the time of someone’s passing, you are acutely aware that the most important thing about that person is not their body, but the essence of who they were.
At their memorial services, people speak not so much of their appearance, but the type of person that they were and what their contributions were in terms of kindnesses, integrity etc… Use your energy taking up some hobby that you enjoy, spend time with your family & friends, rather than bemoan the years as they march on. Eating well is great for the skin and health. And…we are not averse to a daily beauty routine. Keep everything in balance. Remember the truly important things.
Such wise words Dianne!
Amen to that!!
Sounds like great advice to me!
Just ordered this book from Amazon. Sounds like a wonderfully refreshing attitude towards ageing!
The Vino Years
I hate to burst your bubble, but French women DO get facelifts, and botox, and juvederm, and many other procedures. In fact, when I am at my French dermatologists office in Paris, Dr. Bruno Tantet, it is filled with French women. There is also Dr. Sebbagh who is one of the most famous dermatologists in the world, and he is FRENCH with an entire list of French clients, as well as celebrities like Cindy Crawford. There are many women who come from around the world to go to the great dermatologists and plastic surgeons in France. Why? Unlike American women, French women go for a subtle touch up rather than a total overhaul, and that is what you will get from a French doctor. However, having that as a title would not sell books would it? French women eat in moderation watching every bite that enters their mouths, DO NOT snack, ever!, smoke like fiends to stay thin, and are absolute devotees to a skin care regime. They also have much more advanced spas than anything you will find in the US. And, they have some of the BEST beauty supplements in the world using both chemical and natural cures for everything from bad circulation to bags under their eyes. Combine with that the attitude that they believe (rightly so) that they can be sexy at all ages and you get the elegance of mythic Parisienne. I regularly see women in their 60’s and up buying gorgeous lingerie at Bon Marche or Printemps (two upscale department stores in Paris). It also doesn’t hurt that Europe is not obsessed with youth, and a woman over 40 is not considered “out to pasture”. Yet another things that I love about living in Europe with a French husband who still finds me desirable and beautiful at 45. But don’t let this book make you feel bad. American women are some of the most beautiful, kind, loving, intelligent, strong women in the world!
