This week and next I am working on sharing with you more Fall Collections in beauty. But my spin on it is – what will work for women over 40? There are some beautiful new collections, some wearable for those of us over 40, some wearable in certain situations and care. Others, lets leave those to the younger generations who have fun exploring exotic and daring looks. Today the discussion is about Estée Lauder’s newest collection called Modern Mercury.
Above are a few pieces in the new collection created by Tom Pecheux. The “star” in the set is the Illuminating Powder Gelée. The name pretty much explains it all, a powder that is a soft, gel-like texture. This comes with a wider sponge applicator, but I found using it in this manner applies too much highlighter. This is a beautiful shade of rose gold – a shade that is very popular in jewelry these days. Personally, I found when using this, the lighter hand the better. Use something like a fan brush to apply – or another type of brush that will give you a softer application. Because of the strong pigment, if you use a heavy hand you could end up looking like The Tin Man, but instead of silver in rose gold. Placement is key also. Don’t highlight the whole face, just thoughtful placement is needed. The top of the cheekbones, possibly down the nose, add a touch at the eyes – these are places that will brighten and give your face a pretty glow.
There are new lipsticks in this collection – Fuchsia Velvet, Nude Velvet (Both shown above) Red Velvet are the Pure Color Velvet finish lipsticks. There are also 3 shades in the Pure Color Long Lasting formula, the shades in Beige, Scarlet Siren and Fuchsia Fever. The velvets are soft and moisturizing matte finish, not a drying matte. I think for women over 40 any of these would work – however, I caution on the deep shades. If you are one of those rare women who can pull off a beautiful red or fushcia lip, then go for it!
There are some new eye shadow duos in the collection as well. Platinums (shown bottom center) is also shown on the model image. If you can wear cool tones, this is a nice, wearable duo. The other duo shown above is Black Chrome – great for a deep smoky eye or a liner (again, women over 40 if using this dark, make sure you use a light hand) Black Chrome is a limited edition. Another limited edition duo not shown above is Modern Mercury. They’ve added many duo shades to their permanent lineup that are not part of the Fall Collection, so they are definitely worth checking out, plums, blues, browns, and more.
There are liquid liners and nail polishes in the Fall 2011 Collection as well. The liquid eye liners are not runny, have a great tip applicator and are easy to use. They come in 3 shades, Black quartz, Graphite and Silver Zinc. To me the Silver Zinc shade has hints of olive green in it, and all have hints of shimmer – very pretty. If you have been hesitant to use a liquid liner, these would be a good time to try. Metallic Sage is the nail polish – a very modern, military green shade.
Not in the limited edition Modern Mercury collection, but new to the line are 8 new Five Color Eye Shadow Palettes. A few of them are repeats from past season limited edition collections now put into the line permanently. Again, a nice range of shades which are a beautiful texture – certainly one (or two) to find to fit your liking.
