We all have stress in our lives, it’s normal. What isn’t normal is when we have major stresses that when not taken care of properly start to affect our bodies. These stressors can start to show up on our person in various ways and one of those ways it can show up is in our hair. Maybe you’ve heard of people even losing their hair when they have major stresses in their lives. I hope no one has that go on, but constant stress does do a number on us and ask any hair stylist and they will tell you it shows up in hair.
I’ve been going thru major stresses in my life and deciding to sell and move out of my house after nearly 24 years was a major stress factor for me. It was the home that my boys were raised in, a neighborhood that I felt comfortable in most of my adult life. It was stressful finding a new place to live where I would be comfortable and then getting used to all the new things – where to go to the grocery store, where’s the nearest health club and will I like the new instructor for my fitness class and how well will I like my new classmates. What’s daily traffic going to be like from my new place? Not only was a major move in my life, but this past year the hormone levels have been all over the place, too! One place it was showing up for me was my hair. I have even been contemplating cutting my hair because it’s been just so lifeless and dull, and more seemed to be falling out. Ugh. Let’s face it, hair is one of the first things people notice and if you’re like me you get impatient with it when it’s not looking good and automatically think chopping it is going to make it better.
Well, time to rethink all that. Kerastase has a new line of hair products, Kerastase Densifique Collection to help your “life-stressed hair”. It’s not a product line necessarily for women over 40 – stress has no age, but its created to give your hair “more” no matter what your age.
Densifique has several tech-based solutions that work on several stress related hair issues, like root thickness, loss of shine and resilience, which are linked to new emotional insights of women suffering from thinning hair, according to Kerastase.
It was created to treat the three hair growth zones:
- Roots
- Lengths
- Ends
With a proprietary renewal complex of ceramides, gluco-peptides and hyaluronic acid – all things we’ve heard many times about being in skincare, but not necessarily in hair care. The line has a shampoo, treatment mask and a mousse. The shampoo has ceramides and hyaluronic acid that helps to strengthen hair from root to ends making it more supple, resistant and denser-looking. It’s a great texture and creamy and lathers very nicely. The Masque combines gluco-peptides and hyaluronic acid to immediately transform hair as soon as its applied, giving it smoothness and lightness. This gel-like texture is left on the hair for 3-5 minutes is all and I noticed the smoothness and shininess right away. The last of the three new Kerastase Densifique products is the mousse. It’s skin-care inspired with the hyaluronic acid and gluco-peptides and give hair volume without drying the hair like so many volumizers actually do. I apply this from root to end and I’ve noticed I have fewer fly-aways with this as well.
Below are some photos of my hair after using this for a few weeks. (sorry about some of the fuzzy images – I am no selfie-pro!) The only thing I used to style my hair was using the mousse and a round brush. Kerastase Densifique is available at Kerastase-usa.com and salons that carry Kerastase.

My stylist tried the mousse on me at my last cut. The texture felt producty so I did not purchase it. But my hair survived days of humidity and rain without frizzing, so the line is on my must-purchase list.
