Winter outfit

It’s cold here, brutally cold, so cold they’ve even cancelled all school throughout the state on Monday. But for those of us who have to go out and face the arctic temps on our way to work or elsewhere, we don’t have to resort to bulky bad sweatshirts and other tacky looking clothing.  The key for keeping warm is light layers, not bulk. Yes, for many companies when it’s this cold we’re given a pass to dress more casually, but we can also look stylish when its cold.  Here’s a great look for layering and keeping warm.

A key to keeping warm is starting with some undergarments that will keep the body temp in without adding bulk. I own several of these Shimera tanks that I wear constantly throughout the year. They come in numerous colors, fit tight to the body and can be worn as something hidden or peeking through a top. Next layer up is a cotton/elastane blouse to add warmth, movement and style. I love this classic Burberry shirt with the signature check trim to keep it from looking plain.  Always a classic you can wear for years. Top it with a toasty, yet lightweight cashmere cardigan sweater. This Equipment cardigan is a great shade to keep away from all black and it looks great with the trim on the Burberry shirt. Finish off the casual look with a pair of stretch skinny jeans. I love all the NYDJ brand jeans because of the great fit and movement you can get out of them. They don’t feel like your typical jeans and with skinny jeans – again no bulk.

For outerwear lets face it, the puffer jacket works wonders in blocking out the wind and the down is excellent in keeping you warm. I like this one by T Tahari because it’s not bulky looking and it’s belted to keep you from looking like a walking snowman. If you’re like me, you’re feet get cold quite easily. These Trotters are great because they’re lined, weatherproof and well, they’re darned cute, too! The other thing that always freezes on me are my fingers. This isn’t the time to have knit gloves or fingerless gloves in order to do techy things – besides, it’s too cold to have your tech gadgets out in the cold, you’ll ruin them. Warmth is the main key here and these gloves by Ugg fit the bill perfectly in keeping your digits warm. Finish off the look with an toasty wool infinity scarf and mushroom hat to keep the heat in. This hat sits loosely on the head so you won’t get hat hair easily.

Stay warm!
