Fall 2009 Beauty: NARS

nars-fall1

Ladies, take a deep breath and sigh of relief.   NARS has come out with an incredibly beautiful, wearable fall collection.   Now, you may look at the photo above and say – “Huh?  What is she thinking?”   But stick with me ladies.

Yes, as we all know by now NARS is a very artistic line which is shown in the makeup application on the model above.  And, in fact, over the last few years I personally have found most of the eye shadows a bit difficult to wear for someone in their 40’s or beyond.   But hello to the new look!

And my absolutely favorite, must have shades of Brumes.  I will probably cave…

The lip color FastRide – when you take a look at the tube and see the shade without applying, you think it is such a dark purple, blackish brown almost goth look.   But it is a sheer mulberry shade that is actually wearable.   The model is wearing Scarlet Express.   On my hand you’ll see Klute, a frosty lilac, Scarlet Express, a blue red shade and FastRide a sheer mulberry.

There are also 2 new mascaras and foundations that have been added to the line.   The Larger Than Life mascaras are Lengthening (left) and Volumizing (right) and are deeply pigmented and contain Macadamia Nut Oil and Vitamin E.

The two new foundations are Sheer Matte formula and Sheer Glow.  The Sheer Glow is my favorite of the two – offering a light to medium coverage with a soft glow.

Be sure to check out this Fall 2009 collection and the new permanent additions to the line.   They are very beautiful in person.

Fall 2009 Beauty: Bobbi Brown Ivy League Collection

8-5-2009-10-17-06-pm

Bobbi Brown takes us back to school with her new Ivy League Collection for Fall 2009.

 bobbi-brown-ivy

There are many things about this new collection that I love.  I instantly think the 80’s but in a better, more pure, updated modern way.

autumnswes_ivy1

New eye shadows are Metallic Eye Shadow in Bash, a gorgeous emerald green and Ivy, a dark black/green shade in the matte finish.  Golden Leaf Shimmer Eye Wash (shown above)  is a dreamy golden/green shade.

lwge_forestshimmerink1

Forest Shimmer Gel Eyeliner is a beautiful shade of dark green with golden pearl.   I may have to add this one to my ever-expanding collection of BB Gel Eyeliners.  The Gel Eyeliners are my absolute favorite and everyone should own at least one!

creamyeyepencil_ivy1

The new creamy eye pencils are available in 9 new shades.  The new formula is creamier and goes on super easy.   A smudge applicator is on the opposite side.

lipcrayon_ivy1

I love that these Lip Crayons are back.   They’re super creamy with a hint of peppermint to keep your mouth minty.   And, unlike last time where you had to buy 3 in a pack, these you can get individually.   The 6 shades range from nude to a pale pink to a chocolaty shade and even deep plum and everything in between.

Fall 2009 Beauty: Laura Mercier Fresco Collection

laura-mercier-fresco-collection

Ready for a change for Fall 2009?  How about this light, freshLaura Mercier Fresco Collection that typically you would think “spring” when you see it.   I like that it’s not your expected seasonal collection of dark smoky eyes and dark lips.  And look at her beautiful freckles showing through – I love that!

The big draw to the line are the 2 lip palettes.  One in Fair Watercolours (left) and the other in Medium Watercolours (right).  They each include a lip prep, 6 lip stains and a dual ended brush applicator.   The thing that’s so great about lip palettes are the countless color looks you can get when you mix a variety of the shades.   $48 each.

 cheek-pot

For the cheeks try this great Creme Cheek Pot.  I love the combination of creme blush for color and a powder blush to top it and soften it out.   Hint: That’s also a great way to get your cream blushes to stay put longer.   It comes in two shades – Sienna Sunset, a warm tawny rose and Soft Apricot – well the name explains the color.  $34.

creme-satine-shadowNow here’s the tough one for me, these Satinee Creme Eye Shadows.  The colors for the collection run from Ecru Silk, a soft nude, to Pink Chiffon a light pink to Amber Velvet, a warm terra cotta and Teal Cashmere, a dusty teal.

A couple things about this – personally I have a difficult time with creme eye shadows.   It’s not that they look all creasy and gross after a time they can look quite lovely, but to me they seem to take more time to apply correctly and are messier than a powder shadow, which I just don’t have the time to deal with in the long run.   I have yet to find a creme shadow that I stick with.  How about you?

The other thing is – what is with everything teal this year?   I swear it’s everywhere!   Does it remind you of 1981 or what?  It sure does to me.   My work office hallway/public space is in the very outdated teal and I cringe everyday that I have had to look at it for the last 10 years, So maybe that’s why I just can’t wrap my head around the teal shade – it’s all personal to me.   And it’s not that I really dislike the color, I’m just really tired of it!  But here we are, back into the full swing of teal again.

Now this model looks lovely in the shade – not too overdone.   What do you think – wearable for women over 40?  Or should we keep it in the closet next to our legwarmers from the 80’s?

Fall 2009 Beauty: Chanel Venise de Chanel

chanel-fall

Chanel’s Fall collection is called Venise de Chanel inspired by Mademoiselle’s fascination with the romance and drama of Venice.   Chanel gives us beauty with a punch of color in the new eye palette called Murano.   But some of my favorite pieces to the line are the blush and lips.

chanel-peche-caresse1

This blush shade called Peche Caresse is a soft creamy peach shade with just  slight light reflecting particles to hide imperfections and give you a flush of glow.

This would be a beautiful shade on fair to medium skin.  I think it may be too pale of a shade for darker skin.

chanel-murano1

Now this eye palette called Murano has a soft pink and  3 various shades of green.   Here we go – green/teal must really be the hot color for fall!   Personally, this palette didn’t excite me as much as others have.  I just visualized it as being on someone fair like me and it did not say, “you have pretty eyes” but “that’s a pretty green shade you have on”.   For someone over 40 especially,  your shades should enhance your features – not the shades wear you.

chanel-lipsThe lip shades however, are very lovely.  Rouge Allure comes in Instinctive, a pink nude;  Comedia, a pink rose; Intuitive, a pink brown; Amusing, a rich rosewood; Captive, a red brown; and Clandestine, a red brick.  This is a great range of shades and tones that you could certainly find a shade that would be beautiful for fall.

The Glossimer Lip Glosses have 2 new additions to the line with Arlequin a nude gold and Courtisane, a red pink.

And of course the ever FABULOUS nail laquers by Chanel.  The newest additions are Intermezzo – a pearly white, and Gondola a maroon shimmer.
