Calming Skincare

Now that we’re nearly done with the holidays it’s time to calm down, or at least I need to remind myself of that. But my skincare needs some calming down as well. Too many things out of the normal routine of life – too much food, not enough exercise, running here and there, strange weather and it all starts to take a toll on my skin. Here’s what I’ve been using to keep the occasional blemish from appearing, the eczema patches from flaring up, the dry skin from making a comeback and overall calming my skin down to a more normal state.

Clarisonic has been part of my skincare routine for over 5 years. I don’t think I’ll ever be without mine and they have a new brush head from the Radiance line and it’s softer than soft, even more soft than the Sensitive head. The bristles are longer and softer and appear to be more sparse, although I can’t confirm that, so it is super gentle on the face yet gets it oh so clean.

Bobbi Brown Hydrating Rich Cleanser is something I purchased when my skin was starting to get dry and my other cleanser I was using felt too drying and harsh for the winter season. I needed something rich and creamy and this one is all that without being heavy and thick. It also works great with the Clarisonic.

During the Kate Somerville F&F Sale I picked up the Goat Milk Cream moisturizer. I hadn’t used this in awhile and had forgotten how soothing it was to my skin. All those pesky dry patches and irritating red spots disappeared when I started using this again. It’s lightweight but moisturizes in the coldest, driest of weather. The pH in Goat Milk works wonders on the skin as it’s quite close to what the skin needs for optimum pH balance. It also contains a natural Lactic Acid for gentle exfoliation.

When my skin needs a deeper moisturizing I bring out my Phytomer HydraContinue Relaxing Moisturizing Mask. I especially like using it on my Sunday Night Spa Night as I call it. Slather it on while taking a sea salt milk bath and the steam from the bath helps to open the pores and let the mask really go to work.  OK I just felt really relaxed writing about that so I may not wait till Sunday!

For my daily body moisturizing fix when I don’t necessarily want the luxury price of a moisturizer but I want something that is really going to work, I use my Aveeno Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream. It’s been my constant go-to for years and I haven’t been disappointed yet.

To finish it off nothing is better and softer than being wrapped in a luxuriously thick 100% cotton towel and patting the skin dry.
