Women over 40 beauty, Skincare, Fashion, Fitness and Lifestyle

I have been a long time fan of Trish McEvoy’s products, which you have probably gathered just by reading Fab Over Forty.   I truly am honored to have been able to ask Trish some questions to share with all of you.  I’ve also asked Trish for some tips for women over 40, which will appear in tomorrow’s post.   Stay tuned for some wonderful advice!

What made you grow your love of beauty from being an artist to having your own company?  What year did you begin your own company? I grew my love of beauty into my own company because I have always adored making women look and feel good.  The Power of Makeup has fascinated me since I was a little girl spending time in my grandmother’s perfumery.  I loved teaching makeup application form my very first client.  The ability to empower women with a few simple strokes – and the transformation both internal and external that they achieve – is what took me from makeup artist to makeup artist and business owner.   As for how I got my start, I launched my brand in 1975 with 6 of the makeup brushes I’d been hand-cutting for use in my makeup lessons and applications.  Back then makeup brushes were not available so I cut and shaped paintbrushes that I bought at an art supply store.  Before I knew it clients from my makeup lessons, models from my shoots and makeup artists from all over the world were demanding their own sets.  That’s truly how my business began, one client, one brush at a time.

I love your planners and have a few of them.  I keep one in my desk and one at home that I never leave without when I travel.  What inspired the brilliant planner idea? The idea for my Makeup Planner came out of my need to have all of my makeup in one place.  I was on vacation in Italy doing my makeup in a small bathroom and it was scattered all around the sink.  My husband took one look at it and said, “There has to be a better way.”  I was and am a great lover of a Day Planner, so I took the fundamentals of that and brought it to makeup.

I collect beauty books and some of them are fun to look at, but not very helpful in real life.  I recall when your book “The Power of Makeup – Looking your Level Best at Every Age” first came out and I spent hours reading it from front to back and thought “FINALLY!  A book that actually shows you how to apply makeup and how to figure out what colors work best for you and what each brush will do!”  From that point on I’ve been a true Trish beauty die-hard.  Will there be a follow-up book? Thank you for that!   I am working on a follow up book now, actually, with an even greater emphasis on skincare and practical beauty instruction that is also a motivational book on the subject of women’s beauty.

What are some of your must-haves you keep in your beauty bag? In no particular order:

  1. Concealer – for days when my under-eyes have extra darkness
  2. Blush – for quick pick-me-ups to the cheeks
  3. Powder – for quick touch ups throughout the day
  4. Blush/Powder Brush – for a mistake-proof application, even on the go
  5. Lip Balm – the perfect lipstick primer and dry lip cure
  6. Fragrance – to set the mood no matter where you are
  7. Small Magnifying Mirror – for the details
  8. Colgate Wisps – the quickest way to freshen up on the go!
  9. Wide Tooth Comb – to keep your hair looking as it did when you left the house
  10. Hand/Body Cream – to avoid any dryness throughout the day

Being a very busy entrepreneur I’m sure you don’t have much free time.  What would your ideal free day look like? An ideal free day starts with a walk on the beach and is filled with a lot of laughter, great music playing in the background and yummy healthy food on the table to share with loved ones.

Thank you Trish for letting us learn a little bit more about you and your company.  You can follow Trish McEvoy on Facebook too.  Stay tuned for Trish’s beauty and skincare tips tomorrow!
