Fabulous Over Forty tests a new bronzer by Hourglass.
We’ve all heard it before, if you’re over 40 use a a cream blush on your cheeks. It’s more youthful and better for our typically dry skin. But, there really haven’t been many cream bronzers to choose from in the past. Most are either powder or a liquid lotion-like texture. Powders may settle into fine lines and wrinkles and the liquid ones can be very difficult to apply.
Hourglass has added to their Illume Creme-to-Powder Bronzer Duo with this new shade called Sunset. The bronzer and blush are both extremely easy to apply with your fingers. If you use a brush to pick up the product right out the pan, it may be too intense as this is highly pigmented. I like to dab a few spots on my cheeks and then blend with either my finger or take a brush to blend. It goes on flawlessly – not tacky at all, and dries to a powder finish, but not like a typical powder. It doesn’t leave your face shiny like some creams can, but it melds in beautifully with your skin to give it a real natural glow. This would be a wonderful choice for someone with dry skin or who likes to use cream blushes and bronzers.
The in the colors shown above the blush looks pretty soft pink. In actuality it is more of a coral pink. The bronzer portion is pretty true to color. I am light-medium colored, and I would say these are more warm toned than cool toned shades and for someone who is really fair, the bronze shade may be too dark. The lid on the compact opens up to a full mirror that turns 360° and swivels and tilts, which is very functional when not applying in front of a large mirror at home. Illume is also water resistant, which may be helpful in those 93° plus days (like we had here the other day!)
If you aren’t familiar with Hourglass, the line is available at Sephora online and in stores and Barneys. They don’t use any parabens or fragrances in their products and this duo is oil free and wax free. They’ve added vitamins A&E – which is fabulous for Over 40 skin.
