I think back at the first of the year I told you that one of my goals for the year was to exercise more. I had joined the Lifetime Fitness near my home in the fall and sometimes I would go 3 or 4 times a week and then not go at all. I always let other things become priority. So at the first of the year I decided to exercise more and if I lost weight along the way, all the better, but that was not going to be my #1 concern – it was getting healthier in 2013 and starting by getting fit.
So the first of the year rolled around and again I was going to the club sporadically. I was using the excuse that I hate crowds and the health club was certainly crowded with the influx of people and their New Year’s resolutions. A few weeks later I told myself to bite the bullet and get my butt there on a regular basis. So towards the end of January I worked out regularly either on the treadmill or the elliptical machine. Then after a few weeks I was feeling better but knew I wanted more – if I was committing that kind of time I might as well make it be more beneficial. My thought was to ask one of the personal trainers to show me how to properly use some of the weight equipment. When I went to ask one of them, I was convinced to talk to Cole and join his fitness class. Ever since mid February I joined Cole’s fitness class at Lifetime and have been getting my butt kicked ever since! But in a good way, of course!
Committing to myself has been the best thing! 3 times a week I have classes – Monday and Wednesday are weight days and Friday is cardio day and I go to the gym one other day on my own. Here’s an example of one of our cardio days – which I had just completed when this photo above was taken of Cole with me.
I’m happy to say that I am actually enjoying myself! Who would have thought? Certainly not me. Our small group class looks forward to meeting 3 times a week and we encourage one another and jokingly complain to Cole that he’s kicking our asses. Which he is, but it’s worth it. I feel better than I have in years and I’m happy to say that I’ve already lost several pounds and looking forward to losing several more. I still suck at doing push ups, plank and a few other things, but when I look back at just 4 weeks ago and I could barely do a single push up, I realize how far I’ve come along in a short period of time.
What I like about working with Cole is that he’s there to challenge us, he’s there to answer all our questions, offer advice and more. He’s a great coach and I enjoy the team atmosphere. I highly recommend doing a class like this if you are considering starting a fitness plan.
Later this week I’ll share with you a few other things I’ve changed in my lifestyle to help me along the way.
