Beauty editors from magazines are exposed to many more beauty products than this little ol’ blog is so I recently asked MORE Magazine’s Assistant Beauty Editor, Nikki Ostasiewski, (that’s Nikki at left!) what were some of her favorite beauty products for 2009.
I was anxious to see if there were any that I was familiar with or have tried. There are, and I agree that these are some pretty fabulous products!
Here is Nikki’s list:
Chanel Tweed Effect Blush Duo in Tweed Coral ($45; chanel.com)
Yes, the pattern is a bit obvious but it actually serves a purpose (other than instant brand-recognition.) The powdered ‘threads’ of tweed overlap to combine a face-brightening highlighter and a subtle blush. I use the coral shade as an all-over bronzer.
Dove Body Wash with Nutrium Moisture ($9; drugstore.com)
Body wash isn’t particularly exciting but this one made it into MORE’s annual Big Beauty Try-On (after being tested by an extremely discerning reader panel) so I knew it had to be good. And it is. I’ve gone through two big bottles since October.
Fresh Rose Sugar Lip Treatment SPF15 ($23; fresh.com)
Perfection.
Revale Skin Intense Recovery Treatment with CoffeeBerry ($130; revaleskin.com) After dermatologist Jeanine Downie noted this antioxidant serum as one of her favorites in MORE’s “Want Skin Like a Skin Doctor” article, I had to give it a try. Now, I’m hooked. My skin feels smoother, blotchiness: gone. The high concentration of antioxidants help to fight free radicals that cause noticeable skin damage.
Revitalash Eyelash Conditioner ($150; revitalash.com)
I was skeptical about the whole eyelash craze but was impressed by how long mine looked after testing Revitalash. I also like that a portion of its sales goes towards breast cancer research (the product was created by a doctor for his wife who lost her lashes during chemo.)
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish $5; (drugstore.com)
Why wasn’t this invented sooner? The big brush covers your entire nail with two swipes and it dries fast for a seriously fool-proof manicure. Quick Sand Frost (a peachy-nude) is one of my favorite shades.
Is there anything in the new year as far as beauty trends or fabulous products that we should be keeping an eye out for? Drugstore brands like Neutrogena, Olay and L’Oreal continue to innovate with new anti-aging skincare products that are relevant for women over 40. Shiseido, Giorgio Armani and Bobbi Brown all have really gorgeous (and wearable) makeup collections for 2010. My favorite indie brand Red Flower is coming out with ‘Nature’, a line of multi-tasking body/face products that will make your bathroom feel like a spa. And everyone at MORE has been clamoring (okay fighting) over Chanel’s Spring 2010 polish Particuliere (a warm grey-taupe.)
Thanks Nikki!

Thanks for passing this along to us, Kari.
I think we can all ditto the comment on Armani and Bobbi Brown makeup! I wish Shiseido had a deeper bench of eye shadow colors. Some of them are a bit too avant-garde for me (for example, the yellow is too crayon-colored for my skin).
That Revale Skin is fab! My dermatologist, who refused to carry Prevage (saying he wasn’t in the retail business) replaced the line he had carried with Revale Skin.
Love the products! And the blogs! The insta-dry nail polish works really well!
