Let’s talk about something that women don’t discuss very often. Hairiness. I’m not talking our heads, but instead the arms, legs, bikini area and the dreaded hair on the face. Some days I feel like I’m in competition with Bigfoot’s hairiness and this winter I had enough and decided I needed to try something different than my usual shaving/waxing/tweezing. Enter NoNo.
I wanted to find out more about the NoNo as I’ve heard some people say they like using it, but I had questions. My questions were quickly answered and the NoNo is so easy to use, too. Many hair removal systems don’t work on certain skin types or certain hair colors. Not so with the NoNo because it uses heat, not lasers. This works on hair anywhere, arms, legs, bikini area with the exception of the real private bits, but the newer NoNo 8800 Professional Series Kit works for the face as well, a particularly annoyingly hairy area for me.
What’s included in the kit? The hair removal unit, two different head sizes, a cleaning brush, a buffing pad, after treatment cream, manual on disc and a charging cord all in a travel/storage case.
For it to work first figure out where you are going to use it – that will determine which head size you will insert – smaller for areas like the face and bikini area and the wider one for legs and arms. Then you need to push the button on and then the front will light up and show you the strength of the charge and then there are 3 bars that light up according to the intensity. One bar the lightest and work your way up to 3 bars for the most intensity. But, start out with just one lighted bar of strength until you become used to it. I quickly moved on to 2 bars and stayed there for awhile.
Then take the unit and run it along your skin. It will light up where it touches the skin and you want to keep a continuous light as possible. If it flashes off and on quickly you are not getting the best contact that you need for it to work sufficiently. It can be resolved easily by angling the unit a little differently and then it should work more smoothly. You can pass over the same area a maximum of 3 times during each session any more will result in irritation to the skin. And yes, you will smell a burned hair smell – not pleasant, but you know it’s working! Then take the buffing pad and rub on the skin to remove all hair that didn’t fall off but was treated – sometimes the hair doesn’t detach easily until it’s rubbed off. Afterwards you can use the After Treatment Cream which helps with the burned scent and it helps to lessen hair renewal.
I really like the ease of this. Use it 2-3 times a week and over time your need for using it will lessen. As I said earlier, it is not permanent hair removal, but it makes it lessen over time and it’s easy to use. The larger areas were easy to get the hang of right away, however, the upper lip area and chin area where the angles are a bit more difficult took me time to learn how to maneuver the NoNo more easily. And when they say pass over an area only 3 times they mean it! I was being stubborn in trying to get the upper lip area treated and ended up with a slight burn to the area. Totally my fault for not following instructions, but I was bound and determined to figure out how to get that area! Ah how some days my tenacity gets the best of me! It only took me once to realize I don’t need to do that again and eventually I got the hang of it in the lip area.
With swimsuit season right around the corner this is great for the bikini line and especially for those who get razor bumps or ingrown hairs when using a razor or waxing. This is more cost effective than laser treatments and electrolysis and overall I like using the NoNo.
