Does this horrible winter weather – the Polar Vortex or Polar Vortex Jr or whatever they are calling this miserable weather, have you feeling like this little girl? It does me.
Another day of sub zero temps and double digit sub zero wind chills here which is problematic in many ways, but especially it wreaks havoc on my skin big time. Because it’s so unbearably cold I like to take long, hot showers. Scorching hot and very long. And yes, I know that is horrible for your skin, my skin knows this and reminds me constantly by giving me really dry, irritated skin back as a “thank you” for the scorching hot showers. Viscous cycle. But the brilliant people at Tatcha have come to my rescue with their new line of skincare called Indigo.
There are three products in the Tatcha Indigo line, a Soothing Silk Hand Cream, Soothing Silk Body Butter and Soothing Renewal Treatment. If you’ve had the pleasure of trying Tatcha skincare, you know I’m not kidding when I say it’s an incredible line of skincare, and this new body care does not disappoint either. And yes, the creams really are blue tinted, but they don’t remain on your skin blue or turn your clothing blue, so no worries of looking like one of the Blue Man Group. Whew.
While traveling in Japan, they discovered a 200 year old book that contained the ageless beauty rituals of the geisha, and in that book they learned of Indigo or “Samurai Blue’s” deeply soothing and calming properties. During the Edo Period, Japan’s Samurai wore a layer of Indigo-dyed cotton beneath their armor to aid in the healing of injured skin – getting the name “Samurai Blue”. These skin-healing botanicals were rediscovered by a Japanese Indigo grower suffering from acute dermatitis, and that is from whom Tatcha sources their extract. They then add liquid silk and Squalane to further hydrate the skin.
I’ve been using Tatcha Indigo for a few weeks now and I can truly say that with as torturous as this weather and my own doings have been on my skin, this has been a saving grace. The hand cream does feel silky and my hands never feel dry or chapped. It absorbs instantly and they never feels slick or greasy, just super soft and moisturized. The Body Butter is amazing! Just a small amount of this blue hued cream is all that is needed. It’s a real creamy buttery texture and surprisingly after those scorching hot showers I put this on and my skin feels super soft to the touch and it doesn’t feel like I have anything layered on my skin at all. The Soothing Renewal Treatment is a small jar used just for special areas – like eczema patches or other types of dermatitis. It works great on dry cracked spots like elbows or knees, too. They even recommend using this on the affected area and placing a bandage over it if you’re skin is severely dry. I have not needed to do that, as just using it in those tough spots alone works great.
Tatcha Indigo will always have a special spot in my skincare/body care as product must-haves. I LOVE this line and it has saved my skin! If you’ve ever purchased any Tatcha products, you know that their packaging is like none other. The special care and style they put into the packaging makes it all the more enjoyable with the rice papers and printed inner boxes and ribbon. It’s like a beautifully wrapped gift that you don’t want to toss the packaging, it’s that beautiful.

Love the photo of the baby!!! I keep telling myself that spring is around the corner. Man, will we be so appreciative of spring when it arrives. Contrast always makes an experience more poignant.
I fight dry skin in the winter, too, and have lots of trouble with my hands. I’ve found one product that really helps but use it only at night since it leaves my hands greasy. This product sounds wonderful. Would love to try it!
