Holiday 2009: Exotic Jewels by Heidi Klum for Victoria’s Secret

heidi-klum

I’ve been keeping a lid on this one for a few months now.   I was lucky enough to see this FABULOUS Exotic Jewels Collection when I was in NYC in September.   Our blogging group went to the Victoria’s Secret offices and they showed us several of their upcoming collections.

To be honest, most of their fragrance collections are just not my thing – great for gifts to give the younger women in my family, but not for me.   But this Exotic Jewels collection by Heidi Klum just blew me away.   It is simply gorgeous -  from the product to the packaging.   I received many pieces from this collection (unfortunately not in the pretty packaging for some pieces) and the eye shadows are yummy, the lipsticks are as creamy as ever, the gloss is super shiny and not sticky, the mascara is wonderful and the glitter liquid liner is simply divine and the little colored balls called Face Gems are like little jewels.    Can you tell I like this collection!

This collection is inspired by her life-changing trip to the spiritual city of Varanasi, India.   She and Seal renewed their wedding vows there.   You can see the influence of India in the gorgeous packaging and colors of the makeup.    Here’s an extra “bonus” with the lipstick and gloss – they smell and taste like CHOCOLATE!   Not like a bad, oh that’s trying to be chocolate – but more like you just ate something chocolate and the taste is still on your lips!

This is one of my favorite Holiday Collections and I highly recommend checking it out!

Victoria Secret Goes Green

victorias-secret-2Victoria Secret, known for everything pink, has now gone green!

To be honest, I’ve never tried the Victoria Secret line of beauty.   I’ve heard wonderful things about it, but the whole store just seemed too youthful for me – not that I’m an old fuddy duddy, but having the word “PINK” across my ass does not appeal to me.

I have been on a quest to find a great body wash and lotion to add to my body care arsenal.   I love my Eucerin, but sometimes I just want something a little more luxurious without having to break the bank.    I’ve tried Boots – good.  I’ve tried Burt’s Bees Body Wash – OK, not spectacular, and a few others as well.    But when I heard that this new line from Victoria Secret  was “green”, I thought I’d give it a chance.

The line comes with body washes, lotions, scrubs, shave cream, hand cream, lip butter and everything spray.    It’s all organic and natural and 100% vegan.   It’s available in three scents/formulas.

  1. Energizing - which is citrus and mint scented.
  2. Nourishing – which is shea and cocoa butters.
  3. Soothing – which is oat extract and soy milk

Not every product is available in every formula so you may have to pick and choose.    I chose the Nourishing, since I have dry skin.   2/$20 is the price, so I think that is a great deal and purchased the body lotion and body wash.   Honestly, it is THE BEST body wash I have tried in a long time.   I’m not a big fan of Dove or Olay body washes – this beats them both hands down.  I’ve also tried other brands that were much more expensive and this also beats them all.

The body lotion is thick and creamy and absorbs quickly so you can get dressed right away – no need to wait till you’re not sticky to get dressed.   It’s luxurious and such a bargain at $10.    I’ve now put my Eucerin on the back shelf (at least for now).

I also was tempted by the Lip Butters and purchased the color Ripe.   It’s a neutral brownish pink color.   The tube is a little bigger than a chapstick, but not as big as the old Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker.

But the funny thing is – as soon as I applied this to my lips, it took me back to about 5th grade with my Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker.  There is fruit oil in the Lip Butter and it must be the same as used in BBLS.    So if you want a little bit of nostalgia, go for it with the Lip Butter, but no one will know you’re remembering your grade school crush and thought you were so cool with your Lip Smacker – this is so much more adult!
