Hourglass Fall 2010 Collection

Hourglass Fall 2010 Collection

Hourglass Cosmetics has created a new lipstick and mascara for Fall 2010, which was created in collaboration with Gina Brooks.  Gina is a well known celebrity makeup artist with clients such as Madonna, Anne Hathaway and Naomi Campbell.

Shown above is the new Femme Rouge lipstick in color Fresco.   The case is a solid feeling metal case in Hourglass’ signature bronze tone metal and the Hourglass logo is imprinted into the the tube of lipstick.  Personally, I love this particular shade on me.   It’s a beautiful rosy brown shade that goes on fairly sheer and is buildable in color.

Besides the beautiful color and case, this lipstick is guaranteed to be one of my all-time favorites!   The texture is so incredible!   It’s soft and creamy, not a heavy creamy, but a soft silk velvet feeling.   Pure luxury in a tube.

Femme Rouge is moisturizing with Vitamin E and has protecting anti-oxidants.  You won’t find parabens in this lipstick either.  Surprisingly, this lipstick is refillable too!  $30 and available at Barney’s and Sephora and Sephora.com.

The other piece in the Fall 2010 Collection is Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.   The brush is an hourglass shape with “pinwheel” bristles and gives me “wow” lashes.   Very full, voluminous lashes that do not clump, flake or dry.  Created with Pro-Vitamin B5 for conditioning and hydrating and is paraben, sulfate and phthalate free.  This too, is in the signature bronze shade metal tube like the lipstick.

On Friday, September 10th, Hourglass will host a “Runway to Realway” Fashion’s Night Out event at the Sephora store in New York City’s Union Square. Artistic Director Gina Brooke (shown above) and a team of makeup artists will create a performance art, avant-garde makeup show featuring the Fall 2010 collection, followed by consultations and Q&A. The event will take place from 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm, with Gina’s performance at 7:00 pm.

Weekend Roundup – August 21

Weekend Roundup – August 21

Beauty companies are dazzling us with new makeup introductions, effective skin care, fabulous fragrances, and new shades for our nails – all kinds of temptations to spend money to be gorgeous! Check out the must-haves that made us swoon this week.

Gaia used the term “perfect” to describe Edward Bess Forever Yours Ultra Sleek Lipstick. If you want to see how “perfect” looks, head over to The Non-Blonde. Of the 13 shades available, she was able to limit herself to just four. Such willpower! It’s also noteworthy that she found a jasmine she likes!

Charlestongirl is already in the holiday spirit, thanks to Shiseido! The Makeup 2010 Holiday Collection Essential Elegance Palette, created by Dick Page, left her gushing at Best Things in Beauty.

The Budget Fashionista is always keeping us up to date with the latest in Fall Fashion.  This new line at Target is one you don’t want to miss.

Sabrina at The Beauty Look Book is another Edward Bess fan. You’ll want to see her complete review, along with lots of photos, of his Compact Rouge.

Kelly has a new lip addiction. Tom Pecheux is shaking up Estée Lauder. He rocked Kelly with the new Pure Color Gloss. She modeled her lovely shade selections at Gouldylox Reviews.

At BeautyXposé, it was all about REN Replenishing Treatment Mists (and darling flats for fall). Find out why Pamela has been obsessed, spritzing with glee.

Let’s not forget our hands! Laurie at Product Girl  gave us a peek at Essie’s Fall 2010 collection, nail colors to complement the season’s fashion trends.

While we’re on the subject of hands, Marcia and Lisa featured an interview with Ellen Sirot, a world-famous hand model! If you visit Beauty Info Zone Blog, you’ll find a special discount on Ellen’s Hand Perfection products to keep your hands in tip-top shape.

To end our tour on an upbeat, jazzy note, head over to Makeup Artist Backstage and watch the short video on Washington’s style setters (“housewives” and party crashers aren’t DC’s only claim to fame). Victoria worked to beautify this year’s shoot.

You’ll want to drop in on our beauty blogger friends every day over the next few weeks. The beauty world is hopping!

Eat Pray Love – Love the Look!

Eat Pray Love – Love the Look!

10 August 2010 - New York, NY - Julia Roberts. The World Premiere of EAT PRAY LOVE held at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City. Photo Credit: Paul Zimmerman/AdMedia

I admit, I am probably the only person in the universe who hasn’t read Eat Pray Love.   And yet, I am so excited for the movie and to see Julia Roberts in this part.   Last night was the red carpet movie premier, and didn’t she look lovely?!  I think Julia gets more beautiful as she ages.  She obviously is living her life right.

Makeup artist Genevieve Herr created Julia’s chic look for the red carpet last night.  Here are the products she used so you can re-create this look at home.

For a natural complexion, Genevieve used the new Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation, an amazing radiance-boosting foundation launching next month, and Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Secret Brightening Powder and a cream blush in plum on the apples of the cheeks.

She wanted to give Julia soft, smoky eyes with a mix of blacks and plums.  To achieve this, she first applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to line the eyes and then blended shadows from our new fall French Coquettes collection called the French Touch Color Design Quad.  Her lashes were topped with Définicils Precious Cells Mascara in Black for a full, natural lash.

She finished the look with a neutral lip using Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Natural, Color Design Lipstick in Love It! and a touch of Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for the perfect photo-ready pout.

If you’ve read the book or are planning to see the movie, I’d love to hear what you think!

LORAC Fall 2010 Collections

Nude Scene

I stopped by my local Ulta this past weekend and caught a look at these new LORAC pieces for Fall.   On top is Nude Scene which is exclusive to Ulta and includes 2 eye shadows; one in a soft beige/nude and the other in a soft light brown.   There is a blush which is a soft rose with some brown in it and a nude/rose lipstick gloss.   There is a flat fan brush included and all of this comes in a silver embossed wristlet.   All of this (sizes are full sized too) is only $25!   It’s an incredible value and the colors are extremely wearable and definitely would fit most skin tones.   For women over 40 this is a beautiful, soft, natural look that so many of us crave.

Evening Out

I also saw at Ulta this gem of a piece called Evening Out Complexion Kit.   This is not exclusive to Ulta like Nude Scenes is, but I don’t see it online yet even though it was at the store.    Housed in this black/silver case is a powder foundation and underneath that is a pullout that houses two creamy concealers.   Lift up that section and on the bottom is a place for the concealer brush and a small soft powder puff applicator.  The foundation is oil and paraben free and the concealers are paraben free.   One of the big things that LORAC is known for are her foundations and concealers and this all-in-one compact is a fabulous idea. $38

Private Affair

Private Affair is an eye collection from LORAC that is exclusive to Sephora.  The collection has 6 shadows in greys, purples and bronze along with a duo ended eye shadow brush and a mini Behind the Scenes Eye Primer, all housed in a faux croc case only $38.  If you crave a little more color than what the Nude Scene palette offers, this is a beauty!   I will have to get to Sephora soon to get my hands on it as these colors have my name written all over them!

Burberry Beauty – Plaid Gone Mad

Burberry Beauty – Plaid Gone Mad

As I’m sure you’ve already heard, Burberry has added a cosmetic line to their long standing clothing and accessory lines.   I have been greatly anticipating its arrival, said to have been available mid-July.   Then I saw in print it was going to be available mid-June (wasn’t true).   It’s only available in 5 Nordstrom stores and the closest one to me in the midwest is the Michigan Avenue store in Chicago.   It was available online starting in July, but the store release date was pushed back to early August.   I’ve heard a variety of dates – August 2, August 4, August 16th – so we’ll have to wait and see which date it actually goes “live” in the few stores.

But I’m guessing as this became available online it was a bigger hit than anticipated because the pieces I ordered July 14th trickled in to my home from 4 different shipments.  First being told all would ship the 16th, and then 10 days later being told it wouldn’t ship until sometime in August, but I ended up getting the pieces I ordered before August.   Hmmm – miscommunication problems?

Since I knew it was going to be in the Michigan Ave store I called to talk to someone about the line.   Julianna was very helpful, as I can be skeptical about colors shown online not being true to form.   I explained my coloring and I told her what I was interested in and wanted help describing some of the colors. The “Warm Glow” Bronzer was a piece I was interested in as well as the glosses, lipsticks and eye shadows.    She suggested with my skin coloring that the Bronzer in Warm Glow #1 would be right for my skintone, the shadows Gold Trench and Taupe Brown were recommended as well.  I wanted to try the gloss in #4 Blush and also a lip color and gloss that would give me a tad richer than a nude-pinkish brown lip.  It was decided on #4 Rosewood lipstick and #5 Tea Rose gloss.

As you can see from above images the packaging is beautiful and classy.  The box has the Burberry logo and the eye shadows and bronzer are wrapped in the felt fabric pouch with the Burberry pattern imprint.   The actual compact is heavy with the Burberry plaid pattern as well and when you open up the product, that too has the pattern cut out on the product.   Shown above is the Bronzer in Warm Glow #1.   I do really, really like the color and soft warm tone it gives my skin.  Not super-bronzy, but a nice warmth.   It is heavily fragranced though.   I was surprised by how much fragrance it had.   Once it is on my face I no longer could smell it, nor did it irritate my skin, but I could imagine with some people that would be bothersome.

Above, this eye shadow shade is Gold Trench.   Described to me as the classic Burberry trench coat color with a hint of gold, and that really is right on target for a description and it’s sheer with an ever-so-slight hint of shimmer. This is a wonderful, multi-use shade.   I’ve worn it alone with some eyeliner and mascara and with other shades for building more color.

This is Brown Taupe shadow.   It’s a deep taupe with some brown, almost mud color.   I really like it as well.  This is great in the crease of my eye used with a fluffy brush to get soft definition or on my lid for a darker more intense look.  This shadow is matte and goes on beautifully.   I did not detect any fragrance in the eye shadows.   I am very pleased with these products above, except for the fact that this shade was shipped in a padded envelope and the lid arrived broken.

On to the lipstick.   This is shade #1 Nude Beige.  But wait!  Do you recall I told you I ordered #4 Rosewood?  Yes, but I received #1 Nude Beige.  It’s not a shade I would have EVER picked.   It was way too light in the online color and in person as well. But I thought I’d give it a try.  Well, it was worth a good laugh!   It has almost  a silvery shimmer to it, so not only does the color look bad on my skin, the odd shimmer tone makes me look dead.   Yep, like I’ve been put in the freezer for a month and my lips are that grey/silvery dead color. It might work if I was trying out for a part on CSI as a corpse.   Needless to say, I was really disappointed in not getting the right shade, but I do love the creamy texture of the lipstick.   I know Best Things in Beauty didn’t like the fragrance, but to me there was barely any fragrance detected.   Everyone has their own sensitivities and likes/dislikes and this didn’t bother me.   She also felt she was shipped the wrong color in the lipstick.   I see #1 shade is sold out online at Nordstorm for now  - maybe because they were shipping everyone that color whether they ordered it or not!

And last but not least are the two lipglosses I ordered.   Again, I really like the glosses.   Shown on top is #4 Blush, but on the bottom is # 2 Heather – which again, I swear I did not order.   I thought I ordered #5 Tea Rose.   #2 is sold out on Nordstrom as well – so it only strengthens my theory that they were shipping #1 lipstick and #2 gloss to everyone by mistake????  Just kidding.

I love the #4 Blush shade and it can be worn alone with a soft hint of pink glow to the lips.  #2 is OK, a bit deeper brown than my natural lip, and again, definitely not a shade I would have picked out but it certainly is wearable.  I think it’s growing on me.

Overall the quality of the product is beautiful and I would put it right up there next to other high end lines like Giorgio Armani, Dior and Chanel.   However, I was extremely disappointed in the disorganization of whether the products are available, will they ship, and then getting the wrong product when it actually shipped.   I hope they get the kinks worked out quickly, because mistakes like that can only turn customers off.   I probably will return the lipstick, just because I know I will never wear it ever, and for that price it needs to be corrected.   That’s the good thing about this happening with Nordstrom – the return will be accepted without any hassles, and Julianna was the best!
