Purple Pride

Purple Pride

Fabulous Fall Shades

As summer comes to a close and fall begins to open its doors, we think of changing leaves, football season and beautiful rich fall colors in makeup too.   Being I’m from Minnesota, we have what we call “Purple Pride” for our beloved Vikings team.   Since I’m not a huge football fan, my purple pride is in the beautiful purple makeup shades that have emerged for fall.  So many rich variances of purple too, like its little sister lavender and cousin aubergine.   Fabulous!

I’ve picked out some of my favorite purple fall shades that are on the counters now.  But remember, so many companies bring out limited editions for the seasons, so once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Top Left:  Dior’s 5 palette #844 Misty Mauve is a gorgeous range of purple shades from pale pink to a taupe purple to a darker heathered purple in shimmers and matte textures.  This Dior palette struck a chord with me and I find it irresistible.  These shades very wearable from a lighter day look to a soft smoky evening look.

Top Right:  From the Lancome French Coquettes Collection there are several pieces that have the beautiful purple or its cousin shade aubergine.   This L’Absolu Rouge lipstick shade in Parisian Attraction is the epitome of Ooh la la!  If you’re afraid to wear red like the French are so acclaimed for, then try this deep plum/aubergine shade.

Middle Right:  Chanel seems to come out with a nail shade that is coveted every season and this fall is no exception.   Paradoxal is a mushroom shade with purple infusion.   If you don’t like wearing the really dark purple nail shades or the kind of off-kilter mushroom shade, this is a beautiful compromise that will keep you in trend without seeming to be too youthful.  I can almost guarantee you will be asked several times ”What is your nail polish?!”

Middle Far Right: Estee Lauder’s new Fall Collection Blue Dahlia actually has a palette that I prefer over the blues.   This one is Surreal Violet.    You can read my thoughts on this palette on Fab Over Forty.

Bottom Right:  Chanel’s Fall Collection includes this quad eyeshadow palette called Enigma.   The quad ranges from light to dark in shades and these are again a softer version of purple with some of the shades almost a greyed/brownish purple.   I find when purple is muted like these shades it makes it more wearable for those that have a difficult time wearing purple.  Lovely!

Bottom Middle:  Smashbox has come out with the Masquerade Collectionand it includes the 9 eyeshadow palette with 1/3 of the palette having various purple shades.  This wonderfully varied palette is perfect if you like more intense fall colors and with such a huge range of shades you can create countless looks!

Center: Jouer’s SPF 15 Lip Sheers are the newest addition to the cosmetic line.   This Positano shade is a deep wine color but so sheer that anyone can swipe it on with ease and get a beautiful polished look.   And don’t forget, just because the temperature goes down doesn’t mean the sun isn’t as strong, so the SPF 15 is an added bonus.

Bottom Left:  Have a little fun with your mascara and top off your lashes with Chantecaille Faux Cils mascara in Viola.  Your lashes will pop with the shade and with the volume.   What a fun way to top off the purple shadows!

Weekend Roundup – August 21

Weekend Roundup – August 21

Beauty companies are dazzling us with new makeup introductions, effective skin care, fabulous fragrances, and new shades for our nails – all kinds of temptations to spend money to be gorgeous! Check out the must-haves that made us swoon this week.

Gaia used the term “perfect” to describe Edward Bess Forever Yours Ultra Sleek Lipstick. If you want to see how “perfect” looks, head over to The Non-Blonde. Of the 13 shades available, she was able to limit herself to just four. Such willpower! It’s also noteworthy that she found a jasmine she likes!

Charlestongirl is already in the holiday spirit, thanks to Shiseido! The Makeup 2010 Holiday Collection Essential Elegance Palette, created by Dick Page, left her gushing at Best Things in Beauty.

The Budget Fashionista is always keeping us up to date with the latest in Fall Fashion.  This new line at Target is one you don’t want to miss.

Sabrina at The Beauty Look Book is another Edward Bess fan. You’ll want to see her complete review, along with lots of photos, of his Compact Rouge.

Kelly has a new lip addiction. Tom Pecheux is shaking up Estée Lauder. He rocked Kelly with the new Pure Color Gloss. She modeled her lovely shade selections at Gouldylox Reviews.

At BeautyXposé, it was all about REN Replenishing Treatment Mists (and darling flats for fall). Find out why Pamela has been obsessed, spritzing with glee.

Let’s not forget our hands! Laurie at Product Girl  gave us a peek at Essie’s Fall 2010 collection, nail colors to complement the season’s fashion trends.

While we’re on the subject of hands, Marcia and Lisa featured an interview with Ellen Sirot, a world-famous hand model! If you visit Beauty Info Zone Blog, you’ll find a special discount on Ellen’s Hand Perfection products to keep your hands in tip-top shape.

To end our tour on an upbeat, jazzy note, head over to Makeup Artist Backstage and watch the short video on Washington’s style setters (“housewives” and party crashers aren’t DC’s only claim to fame). Victoria worked to beautify this year’s shoot.

You’ll want to drop in on our beauty blogger friends every day over the next few weeks. The beauty world is hopping!

Pure Color Nights by Estee Lauder

Pure Color Nights by Estee Lauder

A Fabulous Limited Edition Availability!

Do you recall my love for this first, very limited edition collection by Tom Pecheux for Estee Lauder called Pure Color Nights?  Read my Fab Over Forty love here and here. Pure Color Nights was limited to Bergdorfs in the US and a few select stores in Europe and it sold out like hot cakes at a church fundraiser!

Quite surprisingly, I got a phone call from Catinca at Bergdorf Goodman  NYC Estee Lauder counter stating that their store only is getting a very limited 30 more sets of this beautiful collection!     The pieces will be available September 10, but you can call now to reserve your pieces, which I highly recommend.  Let’s face it ladies – 30 sets of this will go faster than you can eat those hot cakes at that church fundraiser!

Call Catinca at 212-872-2741 to reserve yours now!

Estee Lauder Fall 2010 Collection – Blue Dahlia

Estee Lauder Fall 2010 Collection – Blue Dahlia

Estee Lauder Fall Collection for 2010 is called Blue Dahlia.  When I first saw this model shot I knew the blue eye shadows weren’t for me.   I’m just not a blue eye shadow person, except I’ll use a dark navy blue liner.   Then I saw that the collection also had a series of colors in the violet shades called Surreal Violet.   Now that’s more like me.   Shown below is the whole new collection.  On the right side are the Surreal Violet shades and this is what my focus will be on.

I am officially a fan of their new packaging since Tom Pecheux has come aboard.   It needed modernizing, yet honoring the Estee Lauder traditions and this hit the nail on the head.   The square compact with the rounded edges and how the logo is embossed is lovely, along with the touch of modern is the clear acrylic base.

The eye shadow palette Surreal Violet is a 5 shadow palette that you can create a number of looks with.   Clockwise from bottom left the shades are a soft shimmery pearl color with just a hint of pink, next is a medium lavender, then a grey with lavender tones and along the bottom is a medium to dark purple and in the center is a greyed plum.   No matter how many photos I took in different lights and different settings, the medium to dark purple shade always photographed blue, so it must have a strong blue undertone.

I’ve worn a few different looks with this palette – soft or a purple smoky eye, which is a nice alternative than a dark black or blue smoky eye.   For a light eye, use the pearl all over and the lavender on the lid – line with the center color and it’s a soft pretty look for day or evening.   If you want something more intense, put the lavender on your eyelid and in the crease put the darker purple shade.  On the inside corners make your eyes pop with the pearl shade.   Line your eyes in a black liner and top that with either the grey or plum shades to soften the black out.   Both of these looks really made my green eyes pop!

The Gloss Stick is a soft mauve/lavender shade called Mauve Mirage.   There is a slight shimmer to this and the Gloss Sticks are always so soft and creamy.

This gloss shade is called Star Pink which is a clear lavender with some pink in it.  It’s very sheer and can be worn alone with a barely-there look or on top of the Gloss Stick for a hint of shine.

Overall, I really like this palette – more than I thought I would.  However, I get the darker shades for fall in the Blue Dahlia palette, but I see this Surreal Violet as more of a year-around color palette, making it more versatile than at first glance.   The whole collection is available at counters and online now.

Eye palette and lip products were sent to me by Estee Lauder.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss Collection

Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss Collection

“Gloss brings a highlight and sensuality to the face. For me, a woman who wears a gloss looks like she wants to be kissed!”

 - Tom Pecheux, Creative Makeup Director, Estée Lauder

I appear to be on a roll lately with Tom Pecheux and Estee Lauder.   With how much I love my new Pure Color Night collection, I know his additional products will be a huge success as well.   Available now at Nordstrom and Nordstrom.com are the new six color collection of Pure Color Gloss created by Tom Pecheux.

Let me explain a bit about the new Pure Color Gloss Collection, as it might be a bit confusing.    Tom has created these 6 specific colors for his collection which are available at Nordstrom and Nordstrom.com.   However, the company has released a total of 34 new glosses in the Pure Color Gloss Collection which are available at all Estee Lauder counters and Estee Lauder online.    Here’s where it might get tricky.   Of the 6 lip gloss shades by Tom Pecheux shown above, only 4 of them are limited edition (and still only available thru Nordstrom) so when they are gone, they are gone!   The limited edition shades are:

  • Perfect Nude
  • Fuchsia Fever
  • Red Tango
  • Coral Fantasy

The shades Plum Desire and Nude Rose, which are shown in the 6 above, will be part of the regular Pure Color Gloss Collection.   What I’m told by the Estee Lauder representative is that from the image shown above, the 3rd from the left  Plum Desire  and #5  Nude Rose colors are the ones that are part of the 34 mainstay color collection.

These new glosses are said to have high-impact color, lasting shine and maximum moisture.   They come in three finishes:

  • Shine – for an ultra shiny glossy finish
  • Shimmer – finely cut pearls offer a fierce shimmer
  • Sparkle – super high-shine fused with metallic sparkle for the most dramatic look of the three finishes.

They all have Vitamin C and E to moisturize and protect lips, multi-functional humectants leaving lips soft and hydrated immediately and over time improving the condition of the lips.

I believe I will be making a mad dash for the Estee Lauder counter this week to check these out!
