YSL lipsticks are typically creamy, moisturizing lipsticks. I’ve owned a few in the past that I have loved and am sad that the colors I chose are now discontinued. Having heard rave reviews on the new Gloss Volupte in nearly every beauty magazine and blog, I thought I’d check it out – #4 shade was THE one.
This is a new formula for YSL – a lipstick that is more like a sheer gloss texture. The shades can look intense in the tube, but are actually quite sheer. With only 4 shades available, there isn’t a huge range to choose from and shades 1-3 were not for me, but shade #4 was nearly impossible to find. Either it was sold out or it was the one shade that never arrived. I did find it while in NY and it is a beautiful sheer plummy, raspberry shade. I really liked it and yes the texture is incredible.
But wait – what the hell was that? That taste! It seriously tasted rancid, only it was brand new and wasn’t. So I tried one in another shade – just in case. Yep – same nasty taste. So I then tried a lip gloss that I had also heard was great, and this too was a beautiful shade. Umm, same rancid taste!
So I beg of YSL – please get rid of whatever that additive of scent/flavor is in these lip products and I’m sure you’d have many more fans because it really is a beautiful lippie.

Hi Kari!
Thanks for the heads up! I hate when a good lipstick is mucked up by too much
scent/perfume/skunk spray. I usually love YSL lipsticks. i will take a pass on this one!

Someon had suggested that maybe it was a bad shipment or something. Not the case – one was purchased at Macy’s Mpls and the other location was Bendels NYC.
