I’ve been traveling a bit as of late – a reason why the blog has been sporadic. Mr. Fab and I took a quick trip to Mt. Rushmore and then last weekend I took a trip with some wonderful high school friends to celebrate the big 5-0! In both instances I was in need of picking up some essentials, which turned out to be great beauty surprises.
On my first trip I ran out of my travel sized hand lotion on the first day and when the hotel mini of a mystery hand lotion just didn’t cut it (Mr. Fab said it was stinky and begged me never to put it on again) I knew I couldn’t go without hand lotion for long – not when I typically apply hand lotion about six times a day, possibly more often. The next day while in Rapid City, SD I ran into a boutique called Karma. It was there that I found (among many other treasures) TokyoMilk Dark. I had heard of TokyoMilk, but never had run across it to try it out. The Dark line consists of handcremes, eau de parfum and lip elixirs and comes in a variety of scents/flavors. Each one has a number that correlates with the scent and #62 Tainted Love turned out to be my favorite. It’s a perfect scent for fall – a little dark, a little deep and quite mysterious. The black packaging adds to the mystery and edginess of the product. Tainted Love has notes of Dark Vanilla Bean, Sparkling Citrus, Orchid, White Tea, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean. The handcreme is luxuriously rich with shea butter, avocado oil, aloe vera and sweet almond oil – which makes it highly moisturizing without being greasy or slick feeling on the hands.
On my second trip in less than a week I forgot my lip balm. There are many times a gloss or lipstick won’t do and a girl just needs her balm. Bedtime is one of those perfect times for a lip balm and I thought that first night I was going to go crazy without a lip balm. My lips were dry, parched and in need of some TLC. So the next morning I headed to the resort gift shop thinking they would have something simple to get me by like Carmex or well, I’d take anything at that point. She put this Archipelago Botanicals Milk Lip Balm on the counter and told me that was all she had. I didn’t even look at the package or anything – this girl was desperate just to get it on her lips. Once I grabbed it and applied it, my lips were instantly in moisturized balm heaven. I seriously wondered why I had never tried or even heard of this before, it’s just that, well, it’s darn near perfect when it comes to lip balms. It’s made with beeswax and coconut oil and it gives the lips some serious moisture and protection with SPF 15.
Do you have any surprise beauty finds from your travels?

I want that lip balm!
There really isn’t anything better than a fabulous lip balm, is there?
The best beauty product I faound while traveling is The Face Shop rice water washing powder. I had run out of face wash part way through a trip to Korea and just picked up whatever I could solidly identify as face wash. This turned out to be AMAZING. It’s reminiscent of those powder hand washes you used to see in public restrooms, only upscale and gentle. You add water to make it foam, and it cleans and gently exfoliates without leaving my skin dry and tight. I’ll probably cry when I run out.
Liz that sounds like an amazing product. You should try the Tatcha Rice Enzyme powders when you run out and if you can’t find them. These sound really similar.
