Every year Pantone releases their choice for Color of the Year. This year Emerald Green was chosen for Pantone Color for 2013. 17-5641 if you’re looking for the exact shade. But before you go out and get crazy shopping for the hit color of the year there are a few things to take into consideration. Because let’s face it – you don’t want to end up looking like this
Or this guy
Because even if it is the crowned color of the year, it’s not a shade that you want to over-do. So I’ve put together some suggestions on how you can wear Emerald Green without looking silly.
Have a little fun with the color – and these great silk pants by J Crew would be perfect for the holidays, too. Top it with a white blouse and you’re set for a holiday party.
If you’re like me and a bit skeptical of the shade green when using makeup, go for more subtlety by using a green eyeliner like this Laura Mercier one in Antique Jade instead of the green shadow palette in Emerald Lust by Tom Ford. It will prevent you from looking like you’re stuck in the 80′s and a green liner will be more age appropriate too.
Remember the 2009 Oscars when Angelina Jolie wore those stunning emerald earrings – hey’s it’s nearly 4 years later and we still remember. A perfect example of how to wear emerald green – a simple black dress and “wow” earrings. Since 99.9% of us could never afford the real deal like Angelina wore, these Kate Spade stud earrings and the emerald bangle would look stylish if wearing a black dress.
Want a little more emerald than just accessories? This Trina Turk dress is stylish and age appropriate. With the dress being the “pop” of color, then no other major color needs to be introduced and please don’t mix in yellow – you will end up looking like the guys shown above. Pair the dress with black heels and beautiful gold toned accessories or even a pop of blue to give it a more preppy look. This is a dress that can be worn to work or an evening out.
This Kate Spade cardigan is a fun way to add emerald green to your wardrobe and still look age appropriate. Pair it with a simple T and some grey slacks and denim and you have a dressy casual outfit for a casual Friday at work or meeting up with your friends at a local pub.
