Wearing a matte lipstick when over 40 isn’t quite as easy as it used to be when we were in our 20′s. Our lips change over time; they tend to be thinner, dry, more wrinkles can appear and lines around the lips can become more prominent as we age. I recently tried out the new Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipsticks and was very pleasantly surprised at how they were so creamy and non-drying. Truly, non-drying. I never got that feeling that is so typical with matte lipsticks when they feel creamy and soft for a bit and then about 15 minutes later your lips are dry and parched. Not so with these new Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipsticks.
With my new outlook on wearing matte lipsticks, I asked Bobbi Brown if she had any tips for women over 40 wearing matte lipsticks. According to Bobbi, preparation is key. Here’s what Bobbi had to say:
Try gently exfoliating the lips with a damp wash cloth, as this will help slough off dry spots, giving lipstick and gloss more staying power.
Always apply SPF 15 Lip Balm before lipstick – I never leave the house without it, according to Bobbi.
To avoid feathering, line lips first with the Lip Pencil (try a natural shade – the shade closest to my natural lip is Pink Mauve). This will create a surface to which lipstick can cling. Follow with a creamier formula to prevent running. Use the lip liner to both line and completely fill in the lips.
Layer lipstick on top. Then use the pencil on top of the lip color to create a waxy barrier that will prevent the color from traveling.
The finished look using Crushed Plum shade.
Thanks Bobbi for these great tips!
