I had the opportunity to work alongside Jeffrey Sanchez, Dior National Makeup Artist, for a few days last week. It’s always great to meet national artists like Jeffrey as you can pick up so many beauty tips just by watching what they do. I had the opportunity to not only observe his talents, but ask a few questions as well. I thought with the holiday season in full swing, now would be the perfect time to get a few party makeup tips for women over 40.
Jeffrey suggests:
Make the eyes stand out
There are a few ways in which to do this and now is a great time to do a smoky eye; don’t be afraid to do one if you’ve never done one before. The other is to add false eye lashes. When doing a smoky eye, Jeffrey says he likes to take the Dior Waterproof Eyeliner and make a line along the outer corner of the eye and take a brush over it and smudge it out. This really softens a smoky eye and because these eyeliners are so soft they smudge easily and they are waterproof so the look stays all night. And when doing a strong eye, make sure the brows are defined. The Universal Brow Styler works magic on giving the brows a natural full look.

I love a classic red lip, especially around the holidays
I asked Jeffrey if you can do a smoky eye and a red lip at the same time and he said “yes”. “I don’t agree with necessarily doing one or the other, you can do both if done right. There have been some classically beautiful women who have done it right – just looking at photographs of actresses years ago and it’s so beautiful.” But when doing a combination of an intense lip and smoky eye “there must be harmony”, according to Jeffrey. Meaning, you don’t want to do a bronze smoky eye and then a bright pink lip – that would clash and be too harsh. If you’re doing a bronze smoky eye, then do a warmer toned lip shade, etc. Make sure you are using the same families of cool or warm on your eyes and lips when doing a more intense look.
For the lips he has a few favorite products, the Universal Contour Lip Liner and Lip Maximizer. The Universal Contour Lip Liner is a newer product to Dior, and according to Jeffrey it’s like no other lip liner. There is no color to it and it works almost like an adhesive. It has an unusual texture to it that it fills in the lip lines too, quite like a primer does for the face. Because there is no color to it, you can use it with any lipstick shade and it won’t change the color of the lipstick. So if you’re doing a nude lip, according to Jeffrey, it won’t lose the color so fast and look like you’ve forgotten lipstick. This works great for women who have lines on their lips as it prevents feathering of the lipstick, too. ”I like to top the lips with the Lip Maximizer as it gives the lips shine and fullness, something all women want” says Jeffrey.
Nothing revives the skin like a good mask
With all the late nights and indulgences during the holiday season, now is a perfect time to use the Capture Totale One Essential Detox Mask. ”This mask give an expedient recovery to the skin and washes away all those long nights”, Jeffrey told me. Late nights and those extra indulgences in food and drink that we partake in during the holidays begin to take their toll and it shows on the face. This mask helps to eliminate toxins in the skin and leaving the skin look refreshed.
Happy Holidays!

Kari you look fabulous as always! I need my makeup done for our holiday hoo-haa — can you be here by December 12th?!?
I’d love to come to Chicago!
It’s so awesome you got to work with the Dior artist – and the little ideas on pairing red lips really are quite helpful!
Very pretty, Kari! (I like the “Either/Or” concept, myself)
Love ! I also like putting a dab of gold eye shadow just at the inside of my pucker when wearing a matte red lip color.
