Beauty and brains for the fabulous women over 40. Who says that only actresses that are in their 20’s or so get the best parts? With the list of Emmy nominees for Best Actress in a Drama this year one would have to disagree. Only 1 of the 6 nominees is under age 40, and I think that is fabulous!
At age 62, Sally Fieldis likely the veteran of the nominees with two Academy Awards and numerous other awards. She is nominated for her role as the matriarch Nora Walker of Brothers and Sisters.
Holly Hunter, 50, is nominated for her role as bad-ass cop Grace Hanadarko in Grace Under Fire. Unfortunately, the show will end in 2010. With an Academy Award and numerous other awards under her belt, there’s no stopping this petite actress that is Fab Over 40.
Glenn Close, 62, is the powerful attorney Patty Hewes on Damages. The five time Academy Award nominee is also an Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony award winning actress. If you haven’t watched this show on FX, I highly recommend watching the two past seasons before the third season starts up. It’s not one of those shows you can just pick up in third season. It is fantastic acting, gripping storyline and Glenn Close is amazing. It’s my favorite show I watch on TV.
Mariska Hargitay, 45, portrays the ambitious detective Olivia Benson on Law and Order SVU in which she won an Emmy previously for this role, and has been in numerous other TV shows and movies. Her mother was the beautiful Jayne Mansfield.
Kyra Sedgwick, 43, is the youngest of these Fab Over 40 Emmy Nominees. She portrays Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson of LAPD on The Closer, another show that I absolutely love her character. Kyra, the wife of Kevin Bacon, is making this show a family affair – Kevin has directed The Closer in the past and lately her daughter Sosie has been portrayed as her niece on the show.
