If the pastel shades we have been seeing so much of this spring are not your thing, than this Chanel Spring 2013 Collection may be what you’re looking for. This season Chanel has taken neutrals and plums for the eyes and some of the lip shades for spring have the soft pastels. Noted, some of the lip shades are pastel – some are vibrant (like shown above and below) and some of the other lip choices are quite neutral. Overall, my thoughts are this is a very wearable palette for women over 40 and not only for spring, but year round.
The Illuminating Powder (shown above) is quite stunning with the powder embossed iconic Chanel symbols. It is a soft pink illumination and while the compact is beautiful, I passed on this as I cannot wear that shade of illuminating powder. My skin has too much pink in it already and I personally need warmer shades. The lipsticks are available in the Rouge Allure and Rouge Allure Matte formulas. For this collection the neutral shades are in the Rouge Allure formula, which I like a lot. The brighter shades, as shown in both images above are the Matte formula, of which their matte I am personally not a fan of. I find them too drying for my liking and prefer the Burberry Velvets and Bobbi Brown Creamy Mattes much better.
Some of my favorites in the line are the eye shadow quad – # 39 Raffinement – wearable all year, not just in spring. The shades are a mixture of soft satiny shimmer and one matte, in tones from champagne, rose taupe, light taupe and brownish plum. The Beauty Look Book has some excellent images. I purchased Raffinement along with the Long Last Waterproof Eyeliner in shade Santal.
Above are the shades from Raffinement and the eyeliner in Santal. Be sure to check out the addition pieces in the line, like the nail colors and blush.
My overall thoughts are this is a very wearable collection all year round and works with many skin tones. It’s one of my favorite palettes this season.
