Today I had the opportunity to get my hair colored by Jason Backe, Clairol Color Director, Celebrity Colorist (Anne Hathaway, Renee Zelwegger amongst others) and CEO and President of ted gibson beauty. And I should add former Minnesotan and all around super guy! (He has to be – MN Nice)
The occasion was Clairol’s recent release of Perfect 10 haircolor. In over 25 years I have never had boxed color touch my hair especially after my major hair disaster, so I may say I was aprehensive. Jason put me completely at ease. He explained that old color technology was pretty much the same – ammonia and peroxide would open the hair cuticle and then you would deposit the color and it could be damaging to your hair. Now with the new technology and amino glycine it does less damage to your hair – in fact 46% less. Jason wants people to feel just as pretty whether they color their hair at home vs the salon.
I recently had highlights and felt that although done great, I didn’t like the distinct two-tone that was going on – I like more subtlety. So Jason recommended color 8G to make it more blended looking. He applied it easily (even I can do it) and left it on 10 minutes. As Jason says, this is not the time to be calling your mother and realize 45 minutes later you still haven’t rinsed your hair! Wash it out, and use the ColorSeal Conditioning Creme – it makes your hair feel like silk. Style, and you’re set!
During process…
The blonder me with Jason (Gah how I HATE having my photo taken)
Here are some of Jason’s tips about Clairol Perfect 10
- Look on the back of the box to find the color that matches your hair color now.
- Keep your new color within 2 levels lighter or darker than your color now
- Keep the box top and make notes on it about what you liked or didn’t like about the color and tweak it from there.
- Go to Clairol.com or their number at 1-800-CLAIROL for a consultation if you are unsure about what to do.
- If you’ve never used color on your hair before, stick with the neutral tones.
- You are better off leaning toward the “G” golden colors vs the “A” ash colors if you aren’t sure what to do.
- Make sure that you keep Perfect 10 on for only 10 minutes.
Stay tuned for a Total Beauty/Clairol event that is coming up the first weekend of May.
