Classic Holiday Tradition – three words that pop into my head when seeing  the Estee Lauder Ultimate Red Color Collection 2009 Holiday .

The Ultimate Red Collection has a variety of shades in addition to the classic red.   The one eyeshadow palette has warm tones called Gold Opulence, and the other a range of pink/plum shades called Lavish Plum.  Both are beautiful palettes that are easy to wear.  My personal favorite is the Gold Opulence, with the rusty/brown and greenish/charcoal shades, it suits my skin beautifully.

I’ve never tried the TurboLash mascara before, and this is an amazing beauty in a deep brown shade with golden flecks.  I was worried that the golden flecks may be like golden glitter on your eyelashes and flake off – but not a chance.  It’s almost like a golden shimmer with the mascara on your lashes.

Another favorite to the collection is the Opulent Shimmer Powder.  I die (as Rachel Zoe says).   This compact has a lattice pattern and is a warm toned goldeny shimmer that can be used on the face or just as easily on the decollete.   Certainly to make you look like the illuminating beauty you are at any holiday party (or any time).

The Gel Eyeliner is new to Estee Lauder and is a creamy stay-put formula.   Easy to apply and long to stay, this will be a well used addition in any makeup bag.

There is also limited edition lipstick shades and  holiday cranberry red and golden glosses to top off the lips.   The lipstick is also in a fluted pattern like the golden case and in four holiday-coordinating shades.   Yummy.

Finish off the look by topping your nails in a golden or burgundy shade of nail polish.   You will be the festive queen of the night.

I had a hard time warming up to these items and have been toying with not reviewing them. Too much red for my taste. The shimmer powder is nice, but I have a full collection of shimmer powders. Sometimes I wonder how many I need [wink].

I will give Estee Lauder one thing: It’s not your grandmother’s makeup company anymore! I await each new collection with enthusiasm.

  2. Kari Said,

I love this shimmer powder because it’s a nice warm color – some shimmers are either too pink or too bronzy or even too silvery. This also is a somewhat subtle shimmer powder. Even though they call it the Red Color Collection, I didn’t feel there were too many red pieces – in fact I felt there was more red in some of the packaging than in the actual product. Some of the colors leaned toward the plums instead of red. There is a bright red gloss and lipstick, but several other shades to choose from if red isn’t your thing. I know bright red is not my thing.
