That is: to give women – particularly 40+ women, practical but fabulous insights into maintaining their beauty without feeling like surgery or injectables were the only options.
So in February 2008, she launched Fab Over Forty – in which she turns her high-wattage make-up mirror on the latest beauty, hair care and skincare tips, products and issues.
With no-nonsense insight, Kari delves into real women’s beauty concerns. She knows, for example, that women of a certain age can no longer use makeup in the same way as their 20- and 30-something counterparts. But that doesn’t mean that age-appropriate applications can’t have equally fabulous results.
Kari offers tips and suggestions based on in-depth product research and expert interviews. And, of course, she draws on her well-honed instinct for what works and what irks. Kari also understands there is a price for beauty. So her Beauty on a Budget column offers advice on products and services for the budget-minded, but fabulous-focused consumer.
She can trace her lifelong fascination with makeup and skincare back to her grandmother’s vanity table, where she started experimenting as a young child. “I want women to have fun with makeup. I think it’s important to experiment with something new and to step out of their comfort zone at times. But I don’t want anyone to feel like I’m pressuring them to do things they don’t want to do.”
Kari and her husband live in the Minneapolis area. Now that their children have grown and flown the urban nest, Kari has even more time to feed her obsession.
