Women over 40 beauty, Skincare, Fashion, Fitness and Lifestyle

Last weekend I had an incredibly fun weekend with 9 other high school friends. We decided a few months back that we needed to get together and celebrate turning 50. Some of the women see each other more often and others we haven’t seen in a long time, but it was like we just left off when we were 18 and graduated from high school.  In fact we were talking the other day still how we burst out laughing just remembering some of the weekend – amidst stares and strange looks from those not “in the know”.  One of the days we all wore matching t-shirts compliments of one of the women.  They say “some of my best friends are boobs” along with the pink ribbon logo for Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Two of the women are breast cancer survivors and warriors- my heroes.  When organizing the weekend it was brought up by some of the women they wanted a “beauty class” from me. So I obliged by going to the experts and getting product that are great daily skincare essentials.

Each woman received all these beauty essentials (above) to get flawless, glowing skin.   I went through step by step with them on how and when to use the products.

The first product we used was Aveeno Positively Ageless Resurfacing Scrub.  The Aveeno Positively Ageless line is formulated with Active Naturals Natural Shiitake Complex to help reduce the signs of aging.  This has gentle microbeads in it to remove dead skin cells and impurities and the shiitake mushrooms are a natural antioxidant.  After washing that off the women commented on how smooth and soft their skin felt – everyone loved it!

The second product we used was the Skin Effects Glycolic Five Minute Facial Kit.  This is not a daily product, but one that can be used a few times a week.  It’s like having a facial in your own home.  The ingredient glycolic acid natually exfoliates the dead skin cells and helps with those who may have adult acne and helps to even out the skin tone.  Dr. Strachan, a  CVS/pharmacy Beauty Board member explains why glycolic acid is beneficial – it helps create a dewy complexion, reduces fine lines, discolration, sun damage and stimulates collage for more suppleness, helps clear acne by unclogging pores.  It’s best to avoid the sun when using this – and at minimum be sure to use a high SPF.

This is an easy 2-step treatment – Apply a thin layer of the product from the tube labeled Step 1 and let it dry for about 5 minutes then rub off your face with the fingertips and wash the remaining off.  Step 2 is a Radiance Serum that is applied all over.  This has 5% glycolic acid as well.  The women really liked this and again were commenting how amazing their skin felt.

The third step we used was RoC Deep Wrinkle Serum. The product is part of the  RoC Retinol Correxion line, which contains Retinol – pure Vitamin A and the #1 dermatologist recommended cosmetic age-fighting ingredient.  I explained that when beginning to use Retinol, start out with every other day if you are sensitive to it. It can take most people a time to adjust to Retinol and once their skin has adjusted, it has long-term, lasting effects.  This serum can be used morning or night and once starting out you may want to just use it once a day, every other day, and work up to the twice a day over a few week’s time.

For the eyes we used RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream.  Again, this product contains Retinol, but formulated for gentleness around the eye area. Not only will this help in reducing wrinkles, but puffiness and dark circles.  The women were very anxious to try this as many mentioned they had some or all of these eye area issues.  I also reiterated that because of the Retinol that they may have to ease into using this product and build up to using this on a daily/twice a day usage.

The last product for the face we used that morning was the Aveeno Positively Ageless Correcting Tinted Moisturizer. This contains a broad spectrum SPF 30 – meaning it protects against UVA and UVB rays.  I explained what the importance of using a product that has UVA and UVB protection.  Many loved that this was a foundation, moisturizer and sunscreen all in one – making it super easy to use and know that they are getting skincare benefits.

Each person received Aveeno Positively Nourishing Calming Body Wash with lavender, chamomile and ylang-ylang. Not only does smell really good, it’s moisturizing and has a relaxing effect.  I heard a few comments floating around that they couldn’t wait to use this!  They also received Aveeno Hydrosport Wet Skin Spray Sunscreen with broad spectrum SPF 30.  Again, I reiterated the importance of sunscreen for aging and health purposes.  Many liked that this was usable in water since in MN we are known for our lakes and our lake/water activities.

All the products we used are available at CVS/pharmacy and they were each given a reusable CVS Beauty Club tote.  Check out the CVS/pharmacy beauty isles and be sure to sign up for the CVS Beauty Club. There are benefits like every $50 you spend, you receive $5 ExtraBucks Rewards and an extra $3 on your birthday!

Class dismissed!
