What Degree of Mystery?

Oranges

Degree Women has a new line of product coming out called Natureffects. The product is schedule to come out in March and the mystery of the new products are building! Asked by the Degree Women PR team if I’d be interested in learning more about Natureffects I said yes. Then the mystery began. Expecting to get a press release, instead arriving on my doorstep several days later was a package containing a small orange olive oil cake. What could this have to do with Degree Natureffects?

Come to find out, Degree Women Natureffects is created to stimulate our 5 senses by releasing our “outdoorphins”. The cake, obviously is our sense of taste and the orange shown above just makes me want to get outside and pluck one off a tree! I’m going to guess that one of the new scents are orange, but we’ll all just have to wait and see!

I’ll keep you in on the fun of what the next sense to be stimulated will be.

Meet Geri Brin, Fab Over 50

Geri Brin

Turning 50 or 60 is about confidence and walking into a party saying “I want to be beautiful for myself”.

Several months ago I received an email from a woman who wanted to talk to me about my blog, it was Geri Brin. When Geri called me the first time I think we talked for an hour and I instantly liked her. Her intelligence, drive, support and ideas she had were inspiring. I was on a “Geri high” for several days, she’s just that type of woman.

We’ve kept in contact over the months and she told me what she had been doing to get her website up and running and the whole concept of Fab Over 50. She first started with her blog before the main website went live and just last week her Fab Over 50 website went live. I caught up with Geri by phone the other day and she took time out of her day to discuss Fab Over 50. I’m always so happy to talk with Geri again, and I wish her all the best.

What gave you the idea for Fab Over 50? My generation, I’m 62 and I don’t mind sharing my age, grew up with incredible women – family and friends. It’s truly an exceptional generation and we love to share and be supportive in every way, shape and form. We’re really the first generation of women where it wasn’t out of the ordinary to attend college, and so we influence society because we change things.

At first I wasn’t thinking about a website, but instead a book. Then I decided that a book couldn’t give me the interaction between readers that I wanted.

What did you do prior to Fab Over 50? I started my own business 12 years ago, but prior to that I worked in the publishing business as a publisher and editor.

You seem to be connecting women from all walks of life. Are you finding there is a common bond or connection between these women? Yes. I hear from women and reinventing themselves comes up all the time. You don’t have to be rich, wear fancy clothes or have a big house, yet we’ve had the ability to change what we do and change many lives. It’s not necessarily intentional that we’re reinventing ourselves, but we do share incredible passions.

You have bravely been sharing with us on your blog your procedure you had on your face. Were you nervous to expose yourself in such a way to the world? Not at all. I live a bit on the edge, not in a plane jumping kind of way, but more fun than anything. I don’t hide my age, and I didn’t hesitate to share my procedure. I wanted to look like me only more fresh, not like I was 20. When you’re over 50 you want to look good, but spending a lot of time trying to look good is not a priority.

What’s your skin care routine? You still need to treat your skin well no matter what age. I change products frequently, not for any specific reason other than I like to try new things. I do not like anything that feels greasy on my face, yet I want a good moisturizer. Part of having my procedure done I needed to have some facials done, and not ordinary facials (it’s explained on her site). I was introduced to Biologique Recherche products and they have a fabulous cream that feels so good. I also think that there are some great over-the-counter products available to women now. It’s not all about the price of a product or the fancy packaging that makes it better.

Thanks Geri! Congratulations on your success and connecting so many wonderful women!

Happy Blog Anniversary To Fabulous Over Forty!

Wow! I can’t believe it’s been two years ago today that I started up this blog. It seems so cliché to say “where does time go”, but I have enjoyed doing this so much that it does not seem like two years, but only a few months.

I thank all of you who have been here from the beginning and the new readers who come here daily. It’s such a pleasure to hear from you and give me your thoughts, ideas and opinions. I truly appreciate every one of you! I wanted to write a blog for many months before I finally took the plunge, and I vividly remember the days when I was so happy that I had reached 10 readers! I figured they were all my family and that was all who would ever read, but clearly someone out there is reading!

I can’t thank you enough for letting me indulge about my passion, obsession and love of beauty products. I know there are a lot of beauty blogs out there, so I am very humbled that you continue to come back here for some information, maybe learn a bit, hear my opinion on some things and maybe even get a little entertained.

Not in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined I would have made so many new friends as I have in the past few years. You’ve been with me through my parents deaths, my sons going to college and births in my families. I thank you for all your support through everything and I look forward to keeping us fabulous! So if you ever want to email me, or leave a comment or have a question, I’d love to hear from you.

Have a FABULOUS day!

Kari

Bobbi Brown Spring Collection 2010

Cabana Corals

Ahh, this collection takes me back to the beaches of St. John. The colors in Bobbi Brown’s Cabana Corals definitely remind me of the warmth of the beach, sunny days and tropical nights. The shades are very warming to the skin – nothing is too dark or deep, all of it is in light to medium shades of corals.

Here’s where my problem lies. Unless I’m tan, these shades do absolutely nothing for my skin. It’s not that they’re bad colors – they actually are quite beautiful. But, for my skin tone they just don’t work. Maybe if I had more color to my skin or a tan from fake tan, of course, they would look better on me. Unfortunately, most of this collection is not for me.

My favorite lip shade is Guava. It’s the darkest of the new shades, and I really had hoped it would look good on me, but no, I need a bit more pink in my colors. But, after playing around I discovered if I put a shade of lipstick like Rose Mauve on and topped it with one of the lip glosses – Sunset Beach in particular, I could wear something from the collection. The Nectar and Pink Quartz Shimmer Bricks are also gorgeous colors. I already own Pink Quartz and love the shade.

If corals are your color tone, be sure to check out this lovely collection.

Laura Mercier Polished Face Palette

Laura Mercier Palette

When recently making a stop at my local Sephora, I came across this Laura Mercier Polished Face Palette that is exclusive to Sephora, which I thought was a very pretty palette.   For $55 you get 3 eye shadows, 2 blushes and 3 lip colors.   I love palettes for their convenience, especially when traveling.   You can put a whole look together without having to really think about it or spend a lot of time trying to put color combinations together.  Voilà, it’s all done in one pretty compact.

The eye shadow shades are:

  • African Violet
  • Kir Royal
  • Celestial

The blushes are:

  • Rose
  • Orange Blossom

The lip shades are:

  • Rouge
  • Twinkle
  • Naked Beige
