Bobbi Brown Rich Color Lip Glosses

bobbi-brown-lip-glosses

Bobbi Brown’s new Rich Color Lip Glosses are on the counters now and you’ll want to make a trip just to see them!

The fact that they FINALLY have a sponge applicator and not the short, stubbly, brush that fans out totally makes me jump for joy as everyone in the world has complained about the brush.  Or at least every beauty junkie I know.   These truly are glorious lip glosses!  And like the name says the colors are rich, and I think of it as full-bodied color for a gloss.   They last longer than the average Bobbi Brown gloss and are super shiny and moisturizing.   They aren’t as sticky as some of the old glosses too.

I don’t know if eventually all the glosses will have the sponge applicator or just these new ones.   As Rachel, the makeup artist at my local Nordstrom says, she likes the brush – you can get every drop of gloss out of the tube unlike with a sponge applicator.

Well, for now I just bask in the loveliness of the Pink Raspberry and Ruby Red shades that looked great on me, and enjoy the sponge.

Sandy Linter: Color Is A Wonderful Thing

 sandy_linter1

While in NYC I had the great opportunity to meet Sandy Linter, a makeup artist with credentials longer than my arm.   She worked at Vogue for many years, currently has a makeup studio in the Rita Hazan Salon and has touched the faces of more supermodels and celebrities than you can imagine.   And it doesn’t stop there – she’s also won numerous awards for her work and is Lancome’s Expert at Every Age artist.   So you can only imagine my excitement when I happened to meet her!

Sandy was kind enough to answer a few of my questions, even though the event I met her at was a social one.  I was at the Lancome Boutique for Fashion’s Night Out and they were having a celebration at the boutique, so it was quite busy.

I asked Sandy what advice she had for women over 40.    She said “I could tell you so much, I have so much advice.”   My first  thought was - great! A book by Sandy Linter for women over 40?  Wouldn’t that be fabulous!  It would surely be a best seller.

Her biggest piece of advice was women over 40 need to wear color!  Stop being afraid of color and then give up and do nothing.   Sandy said when she has appointments at her studio for makeup lessons she always can tell who it is that is waiting to see her, they have given up on their makeup.

We talked a bit about that – why do we tend to give up or keep everything neutral?   Is it our lack of time?  Is it because we’ve become overwhelmed and give up?  Is it because we’re afraid we’re going to look like we’re trying too hard to be young and come out “clown-like” so we just do nothing?  Or is it because we’re constantly being told that after a certain age you shouldn’t wear certain colors? I truly believe any one of those questions could be the excuse someone would say, and probably about 10 more added to it.

She said the key to wearing color is to blend, blend, blend.   It is so important not to leave the makeup on your face harsh looking.   Maybe that’s where women are getting the bad rap for wearing color – they aren’t blending enough.

Sandy then kindly told me I had the wrong shade of concealer on.   I actually was relieved that I hadn’t applied it, it was something someone else had put on me.   So she took me over to the counter and applied Lancome’s Photogenic concealer in Ivory under my eye – perfect!  (Photogenic is being discontinued, so be sure to get some quickly before it’s all gone)   She took the time to explain why my eyes may look darker than most – I have a large eye and the orbital bone structure around my eye is very prominent making my under eye look darker than most, so I must use concealer under the whole eye, not just on the inner corner.

She then took the Lancome eye pencil in the Kohl Kajal color Earth Shimmer and lined my whole eye for definition, but keeping the pencil close to the lower lash line.     A quick swipe of a hint of blush on my cheeks – blended very well, of course, and a quick dusting of Loose Mineral Bronzer in Natural Golden to top it off.   That’s another thing – our skin tends to lighten or look washed out as we age, so bronzer is important.

I was thrilled with the quick touch up and next time I’m in NYC I am definitely booking a full appointment with her to learn more.   But one thing I have to say I have definitely been working harder at is making sure I use color every day.   It really does liven up your face, and how couldn’t a fresh colored face make you happy!

New From Lancome Skin Care – Absolue Precious Cells

lancome-absolue

Ladies (and gents) this skin care is for us and only us!  Lancôme has a new skin care product called Absolue Precious Cells Advanced Regenerating and Replenishing Cream SPF15 and it is made specifically for those of us that are around 50 or over and since I personally will be knocking on 50′s door in a couple short years I’m very interested in hearing about this!   So Lancôme sent me the product, because there aren’t many places to go to talk about skincare that is specifically for mature skin and I’m here for you.

So why is this different that it’s directed towards people around 50 and up?  Well, we lose moisture in our skin as we age – we all know that.  But it’s also a fact that as we age the epidermis also thins, and we lose the density of our skin and we start to show wrinkles and these ever-changing ways of our skin becomes more noticeable.    For me, I’ve noticed my skin has really started to show the age creeping up on me in the last few years so I want to try anything in skincare that I think will help.  I’m still not ready to go the Botox and filler route yet.

What makes this different?   Well, I’m not going to make you bored with numbers and scientific words.   If you want that – you can look into it further on Lancome’s website on the link above.   But the science of it does sound very interesting and hopeful that we can keep our skin looking its best for longer, and isn’t that what we all really want anyway – to look the best we can by still looking like ourselves.

absolue

I’ve only been using the Day Cream for 3 days now – so obviously I haven’t had any changes in my skin yet.   But it is a cream for day with SPF 15 and not a lotion so it’s a bit thicker, yet not heavy.    It absorbs fairly quickly although not immediately, but it definitely doesn’t feel like a filmy or a greasy texture on my skin.  My skin just feels nice and moisturized.   It’s not irritating to me, because if my skin doesn’t like something it lets me know within 24 hours.

I’ll be sure to keep you posted on what I think of this after several weeks of use.   But I think I’m really going to like this!   It’s also available in a Night Cream and an Eye Cream as well.  If I like the results of the Day Cream – that Eye Cream may be something I’ll have to give a try as well!

If you have tried this or are thinking about getting this – I’d love to hear from you.

Rimmel Glam’Eyes Lash Flirt Mascara

rimmel

The thing I really like about this Rimmel Glam’Eyes Lash Flirt mascara is that it doesn’t claim to be something it’s not.  It says it’s for long, flirty eyelashes and that’s exactly what it gives you.   If you want volume, they recommend using Ultra Volume High Definition mascara, not this.

This mascara has a long brush that is a comb-style short bristles.  It gives you defined separation and long lashes, and I think very pretty lashes.  It has 2 x more intense black kohl pigments, and without that this mascara would be non-impressive.    The darkness makes up for the low volume.

The brush is flexible the formula is souffle-like.  That’s what makes it feel like nothing on your lashes at all – it keeps them very soft.  Again for me, this is more of a casual looking mascara because I don’t need much length, but I do like the definition.   Rimmel is giving away a Glam’Eyes mascara and a Sexy Curves Mascara – stay tuned.
